West Point Research Paper
West Point, New York, a beautiful campus that embodies the American Spirit and values. The campus embodies the true pride of The United States and it’s military. From the view of the Potomac River where George Washington crossed during the Revolutionary War the history and heritage of The United States and its struggles is apparent. The Campus alone is breath taking, the library that spans with walls and walls of books and historical treasures to the sprawling limestone buildings. West Point is an extremely historical school many decorated leaders and generals have come out of the traditions of West Point such as Robert E. Lee and Dwight D. Eisenhower. As we began to plan for the 52nd Scoutmaster’s Invitation West Point Camporee we had to confirm that we would have a cadet to sponsor us as well as a mode of transportation. The reason that we needed a cadet to sponsor was because only so many troops are allowed to come due to facilities and the campsites and how many they can hold. In order to get to West Point we had to have transportation of course so we arranged to borrow a large van from a scout parent in our troop. Since we were driving to West Point we had to calculate our gas usage and our route as well as …show more content…
For We had to do 50 pushups in six inch deep mud and run around a course that was determined by our cadet. When we finished PT we started activities, such as a “zodiac” race and relays. One of the other scouts in our crew knew the entire Phonetic Alphabet and was awarded a piece of West Point “Brass”. When our group finished with the cadet’s challenge we started a stretcher relay through the woods. When I was up to go through the relay I was going through the relay and I tripped on a stick and hit my head on a rock when I

General George Washington, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, the Continental Army commander, and later the first president of the United States of America during the American Revolution declared West Point, as “the most important military position in America”[i]. West Point is located in New York, along the Hudson River and 50miles from New York City. West Point was a very strategic point during the American Revolution, due to its location near the Hudson River and its geographical conditions for its defense, which therefore was caused the Continental Army to fortify its defense there. Thus afterwards a military academy was founded at West Point, in which played a vital role in United States history.…

Standing seventy feet tall, at the heart of Trophy Point, one of West Point’s most memorable sights and memorial is what is known as The Battle Monument. Honoring about 2,000 of American Army officers and soldiers who died fighting for their country during the Civil War. “Dedicated in 1897, the monument honors for those who freed a race and welded a nation” (Seidule). In 1971, President Nixon was curious to as of why there was no monument representing the Confederate side of the Civil War. General Knowlton, the USMA Superintendent at the time, gave the most precise answer anyone can give by saying, “West Point memorialized those who fought for the United States of American, not those who fought against it.” The American people show confidence…

Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa is one of the most well-known paintings in the world. Show anyone from a 60 year old man to a 10 year old girl a picture of the painting and, most likely, they will be able to name the painting as well as the painter. While some say that DaVinci’s painting is the most famous of all created, many of Andy Warhol’s paintings are also easily recognizable. Almost everyone has seen the Campbell’s Soup Can series Warhol painted or his famous Triple Elvis print. This paper will be focusing on his Marilyn Monroe series, which I will be comparing and contrasting to the Mona Lisa. There are many obvious differences between the two paintings, such as the time period, color scheme, background and subject matter. My goal is to also point out some similarities such as their use of line, recreations, fame, and prominence in society.…

Nearly half (47%) of all illegal border crossings into the U.S. occur along the Arizona border with Mexico. As the state with the most illegal crossings t the United States/Mexico border, its remote and dangerous deserts are the entry point for thousands of Mexicans and Central Americans(Cooper). The non-native citizen population has grown rapidly in this area. Arizona had an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants in April 2010, a figure that had increased fivefold since 1990.(Cooper). Illegal immigration, like most other issues has an upside and a downside. On the upside, there is a steady workforce for the labor industry (agriculture, construction, etc.), and the service industry (restaurants). The agricultural industry in Arizona is comprised of 59% immigrants, the construction industry is made up of 27% workers not native to the United States, and the service industry is populated by 22% foreign born employees. On the downside, illegal immigration brings its share of problems including crime, poverty, uncirculated funds (pay not reintroduced into the economy in which it was originated), and an overburden on social services. It is the latter that sparked the now controversial Senate Bill 1070 that effectively closes the border to all but the few lucky enough to obtain legal status.…
