Abstract
This project is about comparing and contrasting the legacies of cultural syncretism in Africa and the Americas with the resistance to cultural change Westerners encountered in China and India. The group had to answer what cultural factors caused the differences in outcomes. They had to answer what legacies have the differences in types of encounters and degrees of cultural change left today. They had to answer if syncretism had not occurred in the Americas, how might modern culture be different. UNIT 3 GP
Introduction
The cultural factors that caused a difference in the outcome of India and China Compared to the Americas and Africa will be explained. I will explain and give examples of the legacies and impact of cultural change of today from old times. I will describe how it is different and in some ways still the same. I will explain how China and India was culturally influence by the Europeans in slight ways but they kept their independency.
What Cultural Factors Caused the Differences in Outcomes? Cultural factors that cause a difference in outcome in India and China compared to the Americas and Africa. China and India had goods that were considered luxurious that were not available in Africa and the Americas. China and India also had spices and arts that were considered exotic to the Europeans. Therefore the Europeans were more concern about controlling the land to establish trade post verses slaughtering and indoctrinating the people as they did in Africa and the Americas. The Europeans fought amongst themselves for land in India and China to control the exotic goods. They also infiltrated and paid separate empires of the land to start civil wars amongst the people hoping to divide and conquer. India and China were simply for trade and luxury. Africa and the Americas were for trade, luxury, indoctrination, colonization, slavery, and mass slaughtering of the people. These were the cultural differences.
What Legacies have the Differences in Types of Encounters and Degrees of Cultural change Left Today? The legacies and impact of cultural change of today from old times still exist in a more modest way.
A legacy can be described as something that is handed down by a predecessor. The Europeans still having trading post in India and China as they did in days of old. African is controlled by the United Nation and is near desolate because of the legacy of the Europeans. This class is a prime example of a legacy or tradition that’s been handed down. Those same Europeans of old control the education system in America today. The Europeans love the boast about there history. Believe it or not the indigenous people were not always in the Americas. They had a history before they came to the Americas. The black people were not always slaves before they came to the Americas but due to the European legacies the real history of the people that were enslaved cannot be taught in today’s society. There is no history of the indigenous people being taught without the Europeans influence behind it. The people that were considered savages by the Europeans in earlier times are still considered savages today. This is a direct result from the legacy of old that still impacts our culture today. The best thing the Europeans did was indoctrinated and turned their slaves against each another. Nowadays the people are dumb down, focus on sports, entertain by television, and killing each other that they ignore the legacy that strategically left them in their current stay of being. savages can help make the Europeans richer and maintain their world dominance then the Europeans are willing to pay them accordingly nowadays. They will never get compensated for the past like the Jewish people but they will get paid to entertain, and work if it is beneficial for business. This is the biggest degree of cultural change in today’s society, which is the savages, actually get paid for their labor.
If Cultural Syncretism had Taken Root During Early Encounters in China or India, how Might They be Different Today? Cultural Syncretism did take place in China and India.
It is not as deeply rooted as it is in the Americas. America is a Gregorian Roman Cultural society that accepts all religion. China and India have European influence such as bollywood, sports, and entertainment but it is a communist, capitalistic, society. Some of women work in factors and business instead of sewing and cooking. China and India has its own since of culture and history. If cultural syncretism had taken root in India or China they would not have been able to keep their own tradition. They practice their own religion unlike the Americas whose religion comes from the European Roman influence. They are more respected as a culture since syncretism did not take place, which allows them to keep their own identity. The women still have respect for the men and they are not promoting a feminist movement like the Americas and Europeans. They were able to control and maximize their resource unlike the indigenous and Africans whose land was controlled and taken over. India and China is a dominant and respected power because they were not syncretism by the
European.
Conclusion
In conclusion I have discussed the cultural factors that cause a difference in outcome in India and China compared to the Americas and Africa. The legacies and impact of cultural change of today from old times still exist in a more modest way was discussed in this paper. Cultural syncretism did take place a little in China and India but it was not as rooted. Therefore India and China is an independent power of their own.
