I have been drawn to Native American culture for as long as I can remember. When I was really young I would watch cowboy and Indian movies and I always found myself cheering for the Indians. I especially loved watching the Disney movie “Pocahontas.” I think I still know it by heart to this day. I was raised in Phoenix Arizona and my mom would go to the casinos all the time. With the money she won, she would buy Kachina dolls. They are decorative dolls given to Native American children to teach them about their religion. They believe that mother earth and the animals vowed to take care of man by offering themselves as a sacrifice so man could survive. I am more aware of others point of view and I realized you can’t just take things at face value. I know that it will help me become more successful in life, because I will be able to get along with all kinds of people. I remember when I used to waitress I would look at people that came in and stereotype them thinking, oh they are not going tip, just by their appearance. Or how my friends and I would not date a certain race of guys because they do this or they do that. I realize now that I was misjudging people. I was really uninformed and just passing on that lack of knowledge. I will not and can not pass these atrocious habits on to my daughter. I will make sure that I instill open mindedness and acceptance in her. I will teach her that people are special and unique. That is something to be cherished and not put down and something to be appreciated for what it is, not to be put in a
