The Haida tribe highly believe in living off the land and maintaining it. They were hunters and gatherers and were very reliant on there natural food sources such as fishing and hunting food and resources .they were very family orientated and had strong belief in the way the families operated in there tribe.
Physical and geographical influences the Haida carvers preferred to go and source their own carving materials but it took too much of their carving time up so they would get a group of non-carvers together and send them off to collect the argillite. They would use water ways to transport the stone out and back to the village and bring up to a year’s supply of carving materials with them..different carvers had different jobs
