Cyber Bullying Bullies have been around for a long time, but in the past 10-to-15 years there is a new type of bullying that has developed called cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is similar to physical bullying; however, the bullying takes place on the Internet and can happen at any time any day. The difference between cyber and physical bullying is that online the emotional and verbal abuse both exist; however, the physical abuse is absent online. Cyber bullying took a while before it was taken seriously. In fact, the damages that are done to the victims from cyber bullying are so devastating that sometimes the victims take their own lives. Solutions are being developed on how to handle when cyber bullying is happening in order to minimize its occurrence.
The National Crime Prevention Council initiated a website called stopbullying.org. The site is made to educate the public about cyber bullying and its effects along with the free information they provide. According to stopbullying.org, the article on the definition of what cyber bullying is exactly, describes cyber bulling as when a person of any age bullies another person by harassing, tormenting, humiliating, and/or emotionally abusing that person online through any electronic technology or device. Cyber bullying can happen to anyone, at any age, and at any time. As previously mentioned, cyber bullying is similar to normal bulling, as one may know it; however, it takes place through cyberspace and without the physical abuse. Normal bullying can be described as harassing someone, degrading them with verbal abuse, or threats, and in-person, with possible physical abuse. Cyber bullying is different from physical bullying because it takes place through cyber-space, and it is done without the physical force from the bully.
