Sometimes talents can lead to tragedy. In the myth Daedalus, Talus and Icarus find how that's true. They both have some sort of talent weather if its being an inventor or if it’s flying. People were jealous of Talus and then died, and Icarus’s flying talent killed him.
In the beginning of the story, Daedalus was overly focused on his own abilities and reputation. He was overly jealous of his nephew Talus and pushes him to his death. He was jealous because Talus invented the compass and the saw, He got a lot of positive attention and was well known for doing that. He could not bear the idea of a rival, and came to hate the boy.”And one day, when they stood together on a height, Daedalus pushed Talus to his death. Talus was confident in himself and his talents because he was a pupil to teachers and make any teacher excited and proud. …show more content…
In the middle of the story, Daedalus’s attention is focused on his mission to escape from King Minos’ island.
He accomplishes making a pair of wings and him and Icarus get ready to go flying but Daedalus warns Icarus about using them and being safe. “ Now i warn you Icarus” Daedalus said “ not to be reckless. Be wise not bold. Take a course midway between heaven and earth. For if you fly too high, the sun will scorch your feathers. And if you fly too low, the sea will wet them. Take me for your guide. Follow me and you will be safe”. Daedalus realizes that flying is very serious and know Icarus had to follow his directions even if he feels like he has the hang of it so nothing bad
happens.
In the end of the story, Daedalus suffers the loss of his son, Icarus, because he is paying attention to his success with flying. He and Icarus were flying but something went wrong. Icarus didn’t listen to his father. He flew too high and the sun scorched his feathers. He tumbled downward into the sea without his father realizing until a few moments after. “Oh icarus my son!” he wailed. He ripped of his glorious wings and stamped on them. “Cursed be the skill that wrought my son destruction!” he cried “Days afterward the body of Icarus washed to the shore. There, on the lonely island which bears the boy’s name, Daedalus buried his only son. Icarus had a talent at flying, he thought he was really good at it so he didn’t follow his father’s directions which lead to a death. In the end, Daedalus’ emphasis on his own capabilities leads to the deaths of his nephew and son. In modern society people with talents can lead to something bad just like Talus and Icarus. One example is pop stars who get famous and get a lot of money can sometimes get into partying which can lead to drinking and drugs. Depending on how harsh they take the the drugs and how many they take, they can overdose and die. Another example would be dirt bikers. They can have an amazing talent at dirt biking and doing all these amazing tricks but if they slip or do one wrong move they can fall and the dirt bike can come crashing down on them and crush them.
