Dance Autobiography Sample
Autobiography I still recall that day. The day when I decided I wanted to become a dancer. It was an ordinary one like no other , the trees sang and the birds whistled leaving a soft melody. Being born in an urban setting, but, growing up in the country allowed the outside to serve as my "secret dance bubble". As a child, I grew up in a household where dance was all I knew therefore I was expecting to be unquestionably great. Walking into my first dance class seemed as if was my home away from home and some days it appeared hazy as if it was my imagination. Its slow structured yet fragmentary, perfectly designed to bring me to center, where I can dance freely without the barre, each motion a broken-down version of what everyday will be like. I start with pliés, increasingly deeper bends of the knee which warm up my legs while still allowing them the support that they need.
I still reminisce the essence of crisp, broken pointe shoes and the leather of the ballet shoes spiraling across the spring

Starting at two years old allowed me to bloom , strengthen and obtain my characteristics. Waking up at 7 am every morning to beach train and weight lift brought me through the obstacles that brung me down from reaching my dream. Though dance was the only thing helped me keep sain from being " broken apart" it also tore my heart not being able to express myself through movement. I am not good with words. I don't know how to paint, but movement is primary. I can become someone or something else. Communicate feelings and ideas. It is the window to your soul. When I was teaching full time and we did jumps it was the closest things to me practically sprouting wings. I have never been more beautful than when I am dancing. I have never felt more alive or free. Dance was the only thing that kept me alive in my darkest and brightest times of my life. I am 99% dance and 1%

In my mind the amount of time the others had already had dancing, meant they were that much better. That was something that frequently went through my mind. I wanted to show these dancers that I could do it, that I could become a better…

Because I was always one of those kids that never felt comfortable doing any sport, when I discovered that I had a talent for dancing, I was overjoyed. I started dancing during my fifth grade year of school. Immediately I became infatuated with the art. Working very hard my sixth grade year enabled me to join my academy’s dance company. One day during my musical theatre class while doing a combo something wasn’t right. My right leg had a twinging pain and when I did the big kick at the end of the combo, I knew I had pushed myself too far. What should have been the beginning of a long dance career turned into a very long year and a half search of trying to find a way to heal whatever was wrong. It was an experience that I’ll never forget.…

The focus of the short story “Dancer” by Vickie Sears is the positive progression of the main character, Clarissa, a foster child who gains a sense of her cultural identity as a Native. In the beginning of the story, she is introduced as a child with next to nothing and is portrayed to have psychopathic traits. Towards the end of the story, there are positive changes in her character. This program is important to me because I am interested in taking business courses and improving my dancing so that I may one day have a dance studio of my own. After high school I plan on going to college to pursue a career in dance and business. Dancing has been the biggest hobby of mine ever since I was three years old. My passion for dance has inspired me to try out for numerous things. First thing I have felt in love with was liturgical dancing which is usually seen in various churches. This is a style of dance that I have been doing for about eleven years. Within those eleven years I have choreographed eight of the dances I have performed as a solo and as a group. Cheerleading is another thing that had caught my interest. I have been a part of a cheerleading team…

My most cherished possession on my fourth birthday was a crystal rhinestone silver bun cover. I would wear it and dance around the living room, arms and legs flailing about, pretending to be a graceful and beautiful ballerina. When I entered second grade my fascination for ballet turned to gymnastics. All my closest friends were taking gymnastics and would teach me walk-overs and cartwheels. My single mother was too poor to afford to pay for classes, so I would learn the movements at recess then practice them after school in the front of our apartments. We moved to a different city every year so stability and opportunity were not staples in my childhood. As I grew older the idea of ballet and gymnastics became childhood fantasies, never a reality.…

This was my favorite dance of the whole year. We had worked so hard on everything, and it was about to pay off. We had just lined up to go on stage when my shoe got untied. I quickly bent down to try to fix it. As I tried to tie it I could feel the cloth lace running through my hands. Next my hands started sweating really badly, making my shoes hard to tie. I could hear the music start as my heart started racing more and more. It was finally time to go on and I had to dance with an untied shoe. Throughout the whole dance I could feel my red fiery face. I even made every step smaller than the next to make sure I did not trip. When I heard the loud crowd, and saw the lights go down, I was so relieved. I had made it through the dance without…

Dancing has been used as a tool to improve health in mind and body for as long as it has been around (Hackethal). Being able to express oneself with movement serves as an outlet for stress, relieving anxiety and increasing happiness (Castillo). A study involving one hundred and twelve teenage girls, which were experiencing mental health problems, as well as neck and back pains, studied the effect of dance classes on half the group. It was shown that the girls involved in dance classes were not only happier, for nearly a year after the classes ended, but their anxiety and depression decreased dramatically (Castillo). Ballet, with its’ strict disciplines, helps people learn how to be comfortable on and off the stage.…

    Character Building

You are who you are by what you’ve done and who you associate yourself with. Dance is how I express myself but also who I am. Through dancing I have learned many things about myself and learned many things from other people that helped build my character. Jete or Chaine are things I have learned in dance, but they can also represent other things I have gotten out of dance like determination and motivation. To me, dance has been the thing that has built my character the most. It is the most influential because I love it. When you dance, you mess up. You watch, you learn, but most importantly you learn to let your personality shine through. When people are made better dancers, they become better people vicariously. Your peers and role models set good examples that you want to follow so eventually one day you can fulfill their roles they had in your life. It’s imperative to me to build others up to pay forward what others have done for you and for the satisfaction of witnessing others prosper. The Pay It Forward concept works in wondrous ways. One person has the power to influence the whole world by chain reactions. Being around the most influential people in your life such as family or friends and leading by example motivates them to do the same. Building character isn’t just about getting people to follow what you do. It is also about helping people to become who they are and to make better decisions. If you help someone correct their wrong doings and guide them to make the right choices the next time around, you have given them initiative in their life. It’s not good enough just to go along with others, it’s just as important to make the decision on your own. And during your life you learn the basics and build up from them. You learn routine of life, the choreography, and formation. Once you have figured out what you have to do, it’s time to have others follow you so you can lead them in the direction of the dance…
