To be a dancer is very hard work. Not only do u have to have a flexible body, you must learn quickly, facial expressions should be great, Dancing should be synchronous to the music, involve with the audience and yes, you have to smile. Dancers put their bodies at risk to injured or hurt at anytime period. They can hurt their spine, shoulder, ankles, knee, wrist, feet, etc. at point of dancing.
Some common injures that dancers have with their hip(s) include Trochanteric Bursitis, Snapping Hip, Iliacus Tendinitis, Piriformis Syndrome, Femoral Stress, Fracture , Osteoarthritis. Some ways for dancers to treat Trochanteric Bursitis are to get an assessment by a physician or clinician to identify structural or mechanical imbalances is essential. A stretching and/or strengthening program can assist with correcting such imbalances. For acute pain and inflammation, ice and anti-inflammatory medications can also be helpful.
Some common injuries that dancers have relating to the spine include Low Back Strain, Kissing Spines, Schuermann’s Disease , Spondylolysis, Spondylolithesis, Herniated Disc, Sacroiliac Joint Sprain, etc. Some ways for dancers to treat low back strain are to rest, ice, and use anti-inflammatory medicines. A consult with a physical therapist can help identify areas of weakness, tightness, or postural faults that may have predisposed the dancer to injury. The dancer may also want to critically look at any technical faults including lifting technique to help prevent future injury.
