I’ve learned that Daoism (Taoism) and Confucianism are very important religions to the China. These two religions have a great influence on the Chinese people and how they view the world, as well as, having a tremendous impact on others over time. According to these two philosophies of Daoism and Confucianism, they’re like the elements of Yin and Yang, both grew up together and pretty much made one another. Daoism is thought to accentuate yin aspects of reality and Confucianism the yang (pg. 210). Together balancing each other and those that practice both are said to be a well-rounded person. The Daoist believes the legendary figure of Daoism was Laozi (Lao Tzu). The meaning of his name is “old master” …show more content…
I’ve learned that the Dao is the source of nature in China, not to be mistaken for “God.” It doesn’t have a particular personality and neither does it care about humans nor dislikes them. The Dao assembles the human beings along with nature (pg. 213). In order for a person to experience Dao, they must forget about personal desires of things. In Chinese, Dao is translated to mean “the natural way.” In Daoism, the correct pathway is working harmoniously with nature or reality. The most important recommendation of the Daodejing is Wu Wei, which means “no action” or “no strain.” This implies that since nature is effortless at what it does as far as plants growing, animals being born and how nature repairs itself after a storm then that’s how humans should be as far as not needing the luxuries of life and stressing over such things. Daoism morals involve three jewels and they are: Simplicity, Gentleness and Relativity. The first, Simplicity, it suggests to give up those things that are unnecessary and fake and to be grateful for the simple things in life. The second, Gentleness, this area hates the notion of weapons and war. It is said that the wise individual promotes peace, eliminating restraint and avoids any unnecessary violence. The wise person doesn’t gloat over weapons or sees them as a lavishing …show more content…
Both of these philosophers promotes individuals of not being self-centered, but more so of working together within their society. There’s no individual attitude. Also with the combination of both philosophies in helping an individual to be a better person, while Confucianism stresses the importance of virtues of life by implementing integrity, humanness, kindness, consideration, compassion, knowledge and education, and Daoism emphasize on nature and harmony the person would adopt an all for one and one for all type attitude. In addition, to being a productive, law-abiding citizen contributing to society, doing good things and being respectful. In my opinion, if the principles of Daoism and Confucianism were enforced on the entire world, it would be a much better and peaceful place to live. People would coexist together in peace, love and happiness, instead of chaos and turmoil. I’ve learned a lot from this religion and gain a new profound respect for the Chinese
