David and Goliath originated from the bible. It was originally written to show that God is always by your side, even when you're going through a hard time. David was chosen by God to help save the people of Israel. A war between the Israelites and the Philistines were happening at the time. Many giants fought for the Philistines, one giant named Goliath challenged the Israelites every morning. One day David heard Goliath’s challenge and took him up on it. David took only a sword and a slingshot with him to fight Goliath, but David was confident because he has God on his side. This battle was part of the Civil War, it also was one of the most important battles of the war for the North. Robert E. Lee, leader of the Confederate Army, had invaded the North and was trying to defeat the Union Army. However, the Union Army held him off and sent the Confederate Army retreating. This was a major turning point in the war.
