David G. Myers 'Social Psychology Tenth Edition'
As a Millennial I understand that communication skills from my generation are atrocious. After completing chapter fourteen “Social Psychology” in Psychology Tenth Edition by David G. Myers, I know understand methods that will help me improve my social relationships with my family, friends, and future employer. The first method to improving your communication is to fully understand how individual’s communication with one another. Social Psychology comes into action when we are wanting to understand others way of communication. Social Psychology defined by Gordon Allport is, “understanding and explaining how the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of individuals are influenced by the actual imagined, or implied presence of other human beings” …show more content…
The last major effect in the way we communicate with others is prejudice, an unfair mindset towards a group. This mindset is effect by our beliefs, emotions, and actions. This affects our communication by not allow and open flow conversation. Looking into each of these components will give an individual a clear view on where their actions and decisions come from.
After looking closely into what social phycology is and how it works we now know how General Psychology can increase our communication skills in our future. We are able to understand the way others communicate, helping us improve assistant for co-workers when they’re having a difficult time in the work place, or with family when they’re having a predicament. We are also now able to better understand ourselves and the way we feel about things. This allows us to respond to literally think before we speak. Unknowingly, social psychology can help us in our future work place when it comes to social situations. Social psychology taught us a lot about ourselves, others, and will now allow us to apply these understandings to everyday situations from now
