Koresh was the leader of a cult that had very strong views against the government. His followers called themselves the Davidians. He didn’t trust anyone who was not part of his cult, he believed everyone outside of this cult were the evil ones.
Koresh was born Vernon Wayne Howell. In 1990 he legally changed his name to David Koresh. He was born in West Texas and had a very disruptive childhood. His mom was only 14 when she gave birth to David. His mother’s name was Bonnie Holdman. Koresh was only in the 9th grade when he dropped out of school. He dropped out of school so he could pursue his dream of becoming a rock star. When he failed at trying to be a rock star he turned to God for direction. But Koresh was such a troubled kid and got in so much trouble he was kicked out of 25 churches. When David ran out of places to go and realized that church was not his answer he decided to start his own cult. The cult he started was named The House of David. David built his church on a simple message: "If the Bible is true, then I'm Christ." It was enough to draw more than a hundred people to join him. (David Koresh: Cult of Death) These followers were true believers of David. They listened to what he had to say and believed in all he preached. Koresh and his followers tried to take over Mt. Carmel Commune by force. Machine guns were used in this attempt. This attempt was soon stopped by the police and those involved were sent to jail. David was able to get out on bail and was soon thereafter able to finally take control of Mt. Carmel. Koresh married a 14 year old girl, but soon realized that he was not
