I like the idea of Dawn Swartzendruber-Putman about self-reflection in writing, when students self-evaluate their own work that lets them know their writing abilities and what they need to improve on also making them practice their writing. Dawn Swartzendruber-Putman believes that making students realize their own process and capacity will make them successful writers.
With the writer’s log, draft letters and the portfolio letter Dawn Swartzendruber-Putman let students reflect on their writing, letting them be conscious of their writing techniques, abilities and weaknesses and as he said “Students practice the thinking necessary to become thoughtful, able writers” So in fact this assignments help
students a lot in their writing, but it also helps Dawn Swartzendruber-Putman as an educator because with the self-reflection of his students he learns what their students need to improve on, and knows how to help each student individually.
As he said "To make sure that children become intelligent, insightful, educated human beings, we educators must help them become conscious of their own learning and thought process. Instead of teaching students what to think, we need to teach them how to think, and how to think for themselves" So letting students think about their learning process it will make them learn how to think by themselves, how to solve their own problems with the help of educators that guide them in how to think but not what to think. This is what Dawn Swartzendruber-Putman wants for students with his idea of self-reflection.
