Subject: GSC Two-Day Writing Course
Thank you for inviting my input on the writing course you are developing. Writing is the primary basis upon which your work, your learning, and your intellect will be judged. Writing promotes your ability to pose worthwhile questions. On the foundation of my experience, I would like very much to elaborate on a few questions. The following paragraphs detail the types of writing, features of writing, strengths, and weaknesses of colleagues at GSC.
TYPES OF WRITING
The most common types of writing that we do most often on the job are Persuasive and Argumentative, and Comparison and Contrast
* Persuasive and Argumentative are very popular types of writing. However, …show more content…
they can be very difficult writing techniques. Persuasive writing is simply convincing your reader/ audience to believe in the Writer’s views; it may consist of an argument. Argumentative writing requires for the Writer to research, investigate, and collect evidence to prove his or her point. * Comparison and Contrast is comparing something or contrasting something.
A comparison essay is an essay in which you emphasize the similarities, and a contrast essay is an essay in which you emphasize the differences. We use comparison and contrast thinking when trying to make a valid decision such as which university to attend, which car to buy, or whether to drive a car or take a bus or an airplane to a vacation site.
FEATURES OF WRITING
When I receive written communication from other employees, the features of effective writing that make me likely to read it are focus and organization.
* Focus is narrowing down your thoughts and writing about specific events. It is imperative to narrow down and focus on your main ideas. Sticking to the point involves having a clear idea of what you want to write and how you want to write about your topic. While you write, you'll want to keep in mind your supporting details to help your readers better understand your main point.
* Organization is very crucial in writing. Organization helps the writer to form an outline or thesis statement of an essay. A thesis statement helps the reader to gain the purpose and direction of a story or article. Organization helps with the structure of the research paper and allows the writer to clarify his/her thoughts.
WEAKNESSES
The types of errors and weaknesses I often find in colleagues’ writing are support and elaboration. * Spelling and elaboration consists of the specific details and information writers use to develop their topic. The key to developing support and elaboration is getting specific. Good writers use concrete, specific details, and relevant information to construct mental images for their readers. Without this attention to detail, readers struggle to picture what the writer is talking about, and will often give up altogether.
IMPROVEMENTS * I would like to learn to write professionally. I would like to improve my grammatical skills. I would like to increase the amount of time I spend reading. People who read tend to have better writing skills. When you read, take the time to note how the author constructed sentences or formed ideas.
I hope you find these suggestions helpful. If there is any other way I can help or assist you on this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.
