Memorandum
Date: November
Subject: GSC Two-Day Writing Course
Thank you for inviting my input on the writing course you are developing. Writing is the primary basis upon which your work, your learning, and your intellect will be judged. Writing promotes your ability to pose worthwhile questions. On the foundation of my experience, I would like very much to elaborate on a few questions. The following paragraphs detail the types of writing, features of writing, strengths, and weaknesses of colleagues at GSC.

TYPES OF WRITING
The most common types of writing that we do most often on the job are Persuasive and Argumentative, and Comparison and Contrast

* Persuasive and Argumentative are very popular types of writing. However,

A comparison essay is an essay in which you emphasize the similarities, and a contrast essay is an essay in which you emphasize the differences. We use comparison and contrast thinking when trying to make a valid decision such as which university to attend, which car to buy, or whether to drive a car or take a bus or an airplane to a vacation site.

FEATURES OF WRITING
When I receive written communication from other employees, the features of effective writing that make me likely to read it are focus and organization.

* Focus is narrowing down your thoughts and writing about specific events. It is imperative to narrow down and focus on your main ideas. Sticking to the point involves having a clear idea of what you want to write and how you want to write about your topic. While you write, you'll want to keep in mind your supporting details to help your readers better understand your main point.

* Organization is very crucial in writing. Organization helps the writer to form an outline or thesis statement of an essay. A thesis statement helps the reader to gain the purpose and direction of a story or article. Organization helps with the structure of the research paper and allows the writer to clarify his/her thoughts.

In your career as a student, you will encounter many different kinds of writing assignment, each with its own requirements. One of the most common is the comparison/contrast essay, in which you focus on the ways in which certain things or ideas—usually two of them—are similar to (this is the comparison) and/or different from (this is the contrast) one another. By assigning such essays, your instructors are encouraging you to make connections between texts or ideas, engage in critical thinking, and go beyond mere description or summary to generate interesting analysis: when you reflect on similarities and differences, you gain a deeper understanding of the items you are comparing, their relationship to each other, and what is most important about them.…
