Divorce forces children of all ages to choose one of his or her parent over the others. For example, my niece was only 2 years old at the time her parents got divorced and she did not have the opportunity to make a choice because she was too young. There are many children who have a similar experience to her. They cannot make any decisions concerning their lives; for instance, they cannot discuss custody issues, they cannot decide where they will live, or who they will live with among other issues. For example, when my niece got separated from her mother at the age of two, this had a negative impact on her because she did not understand why her mother was not raising her, or may be my niece thought her mother did not love her. Also, my niece did not have the opportunity to meet her sisters and brothers. Divorce has negative effects on children because they often experience separation from their parents. In additional to that, researchers state that depending on the age of the children and when they were separated from their parent; affects the difficult they will have in dealing with the distance from their parents. That has a big impact on young and old children because they still need emotional support from both parents. When children are not raised by their parents then they are more likely being raised by their grandparents who do not have the same energy as young parents. Also, the grandparents cannot keep up with the daily activities for their grandchildren have to do every day. It is a burden to the grandparents to get stuck with their grandchildren because grandparents most likely enjoy their empty
