He is taken to his homeroom class, and the science laboratory. August isn`t excited to go to school in a very crowded, public area because of his deformed face. He is worried that people will treat him differently. For instance, whenever August is walking down the street, people would stare at him, and treat him much differently than they would treat someone with no disorders. This made August feel very self conscious. Julian is making this new experience much more difficult for August. Julian is not treating August with respect, because he thinks that just because August has a deformed face he has no feelings. He asks August questions that make him feel very unwelcomed, and uncomfortable. August experiences Julian`s very sceptical…
Russ Posten, neighbor and close family friend, entered the breakfast room of my house for the interview, happy and positive, true to his nature. Sitting down, eager to begin, he gave me a brief over-view of his life. He lived in California until fifth of sixth grade, when he moved to Spokane, Washington. He started off at Jefferson Elementary, “was poured into Sacajawea Middle School, and dumped into Lewis and Clark.” In elementary and middle school he reported being socially awkward, but for Posten, high school was a time of social prosper. While these four years were a lot of fun, they were also very trying and life-defining.…

I grabbed my backpack and wearily headed to my same school, to my same locker, next to the same people. Sadly unlike Carnitas, this gets old. But this day, immediately changed. A boy with long hair and a FCB outfit walked to me cheerfully, almost like a skip. This was my friend Ajay, the social butterfly of the school.…
Mr. Christian Darling, a well-respected high school athlete and handsome man, had an interesting - rather ironic - change in his life from the beginning of the story to the end. In The Eighty-Yard Run, a story by Irwin Shaw, the focus is on Mr. Christian Darling and his high school sweetheart, Louise. In high school, they were always together, and Louise always bought Christian Darling many nice gifts. As time passed and high school ended, Christian and Louise got married and moved to New York City. In New York City, both of them worked for Louise's dad as managers of a New York office. They were very wealthy and happy. However, this did not last very long, with Louise's father killing himself when the profits turned into debts. After this, Christian started doing nothing, sitting at home day after day drinking himself to death, complaining about how horrible life was. On the other hand, Louise got a job with a woman's fashion magazine where she quickly rose through the ranks. She became very sophisticated, and she and her husband quickly became two very different people. Christian started being the one always trying to please Louise - as opposed to before where she tried to please him - and eventually gave up. As fate would have it, Christian Darling ended up working for. Rosenberg. This is ironic because Mr. Rosenberg wants Christian to tour colleges as a tour representative because of his "broad shoulders and well-kept waist ...his carefully brushed hair and his honest, wrinkleless face." as well as the fact that he was favorably known. This is ironic because his life was nothing like his appearance. He wasn't a loyal boyfriend, and ended up becoming a boozed-out loser. Not the type of person a company wants to portray as the ideal college student. This is ironic because although his outer appearance is nice, his actual life has not been that way at all. From him not being loyal to his wife to his wife being bored with him and ignoring him, he has not had an…
Kindness is such a simple thing that so many teens and adults alike have a hard time doing. The desire to be socially accepted sometimes outweighs the pros of being kind to others. In Palacio’s book Wonder, readers are introduced to a character named August Pullman. August is challenged with a facial deformity that causes him to look different than others. He has received many surgeries to fix some of the issues, but because of his surgeries, August has never went to school. At the age of ten his parents decided it was time for August to go to school. They enrolled August into a private academy so that the burden of school would not be a difficult task to handle. August knew going in that students would not be okay with the way he looked, but he took the plunge anyways. August was a smart kid and knew some day he was going to have to face the world. Who would have thought it would have been during prime time middle school. August was “like a lamb to the slaughter” who was struggling to survive middle school. He needed a friend like Christopher who would look past his physical appearance. He was in need of a small act of kindness. Throughout the book, August received many small act of kindness. However, those acts of kindness did not come without a price. See for teens, when they are scared of something or someone they try and make the life of others around them more difficult. In…

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a mental disorder. People with this condition constantly worry about everyday events. GAD interferes with life functions, including relationships and school.…
Millions of people suffer from social anxiety and I am one of them. It affects me daily in all social situations. This anxiety constantly makes me fear of what others think of me and fearful of embarrassing situations. Unfortunately, I think of how a situation can go wrong before it even happens. However, to deal with this I put myself into situations I fear. Instead of pondering how each thing can go wrong, I jump right in. For example, I attended the transfer meeting by myself, which may not seem like an accomplishment but it was for me. Quietly, I walked into an unknown social situation with thoughts of, what if I go into the wrong room, what if there are no available seats and what if I have to speak aloud. Nevertheless, I walked through…
He shows satiric techniques to describe his first day experience was and how he didn't expect the unexpected when going into his class. When he felt out of place compared to his classmates ¨They were all young, attractive, and well dressed, causing me to feel not unlike…
A week later Dale was walking through the cafeteria when he happened to glance out the window. There siting on the school steps was Grace all by herself. Dale was doubting weather he should go see if something was wrong but shrugged of the thought. “She’s ok, kids do that all the time,” he thought to himself. Many times throughout that semester Dale had similar encounters…
With awareness of different mental and psychologically disorders on the rise, one in particular caught my eye. Social anxiety disorder has always intrigued me due to its close relationship to shyness and has sparked many different questions pertaining to how this disorder differs from just being shy. For my research paper, I would like to explore how this disorder’s symptoms are different from being shy as well as explore why people with social anxiety exhibit these symptoms. In exploring why people exhibit symptoms, I hope to find different studies that show how social anxiety disorder affects the brain and how people with the disorder’s brains differ from people who do not suffer from it. Along with this, I would also like to be able to thoroughly explain how the disorder affects the daily lives of sufferers and when symptoms of the disorder begin as well as how to recognize that these symptoms correlate to having social anxiety disorder. For my research paper, I would like to explain different treatments for the disorder and figure their effectiveness as well as why they are effective. I will also examining the correlation between social anxiety and many other different mental or psychological disorders and determining if there is a direct relationship between any two.…
The attack led him to possibly have social anxiety. He has it because he wants to be sociable with the townspeople, but he seems too shy for the rest might not like him. “What chiefly struck me was the gentle manners of these people, and I longed to join them,…
In this paper, I will compare and contrast, social anxiety disorder and panic disorder. To start off I will be explaining their true definitions, social anxiety disorder is a mental health condition in which a person is consumed with fear of being negatively judged and evaluated by others (WebMD). While, panic disorder is a psychiatric disorder in which debilitating anxiety and fear arise frequently and without reasonable cause (socialphobia.org). Social anxiety affects about 7% of the population at any given time, this could include adults or teenagers.…
Nick Carraway has an extremely sharp social insight. He tells the reader that he has an unusual ability to avoid judging people at face value. We also learn that this ability is a result of his father’s teaching. Concerning his father’s teaching, Nick says, “…I’m inclined to reserve all judgments, a habit that has opened up many curious natures to me and also made me the victim of not a few veteran bores” (1). Throughout the book, Carraway exercises this ability. He never judges people at face value; rather he gets to know them, looks past their insecurities and analyzes them based on their virtues. This is the definition of grace. Nick’s ability to have grace makes his character attractive and all the more interesting.…
