Dear Future Study
Dear Future Student, Times are certainly changing and the world is ever evolving from day to day. More and more each day the barriers of our great seas are diminishing and world unification is growing greater every second. Not long ago it was hard to imagine traveling across seas to China, but now with our sophisticated transportation systems traveling is easier than ever. Now our airport systems are integrated so that you can travel from the United States to China on the same airline. Communication barriers are also being broken down. It is very common for people to know more than one language. With a language in common, it is easier to travel to another country because more than likely you can find someone there who speaks your native language. …show more content…
With the advances in medical technologies, people are able to live much longer than they did 100 years ago. Also, most people do not have to engage in hard labor in order to put food on the table. Years ago, most people had their own farms and provided their own food. Now grocery stores are on every corner, and bad harvest seasons no longer prevent families from getting a nutritional meal. Public assistance programs have also helped the quality of life. Now people who are not fortunate to receive high paying jobs can qualify for unemployment and food benefits. The average family of 3 can receive up to $200 to help with the cost of food. With these programs, less Americans are going to sleep without a meal. Also with public education, not only are children educated for free, but those that qualify can receive free meals at schools. It is so much easier to live the American dream. Now one can start at the bottom and work themselves to the top with a proper education. As long as a person has an education, the possibilities are endless. In the 1940’s it was all too common for children to drop out of grade school to help their parents on the farm. Now the high school graduation rates are on the rise. The drop out rate from high school dropped from 14% in 1980 to merely 8% by 2009. http://nces.ed.gov/programs/coe/indicator_scr.asp. With the populations in U.S cities growing so rapidly, farms lands and forest are being bulldozed down to meet residential and commercial needs. More strip malls and cookie cutter neighborhoods are being built to keep up with the ever growing population. This is also creating an uncontrollable debt. Even though property taxes have increased, there still are not enough funds to keep public systems afloat. Urban sprawl has also increased the need for more roadways and congested streets. Of course with the current gas prices, this has become a very expensive dilemma. Just a few years ago, gas was under $2 a gallon. Now gas is upwards of $3.50 a gallon. This price jump is due to the increasing demand for gasoline. The need for gasoline rose quicker than manufacturer’s ability to produce causing higher prices. Summer family vacations are on the downfall because it is so expensive to fuel up. Most Americans have to think twice before making cross country trips. In more metropolitan areas, public transportation has become more popular. In larger cities most citizens rely on public trains and buses to get to work instead of driving. In Atlanta, a one day pass for public transportation can cost up to $8 a day, but most people are willing to pay this fee to avoid the rising cost of fuel. http://www.itsmarta.com/fares-passes.aspx. Most employers in larger Metro areas offer bus or train

Robert H. Frank explains that the income inequality is hurting our economy and over all well-being. During World War 2, the income rate rose tremendously at the same rate. America during this time had a great economy with a bold middle class striving to receive the American dream (Frank, 581). Plenty of new building and complex infrastructures were built and people were sanguine; the American dream was passionately alive. Life for many Americas was great, the country as a whole was striving with new complex infrastructures which a small gap between the rich and poor. Unfortunately, during the last three decades the economy had fallen and therefore, increased the income inequality. There has been no evidence proving that greater income inequality helps strengthen our economy. Recent studies have found that countries where income inequality grow fastest has shown the largest financial distress. These financial distresses include heightened divorce rates, increased bankruptcy filings and long commute times. In my opinion, everyone should agree that the elevated income equality is a negative and do something to prevent it. This is only one of the many obstacles that make the goal of the American dream…

With many local stores and markets being more than a mile away, many families cannot afford the travel distance from their homes. If food prices can go up, so can gas. Some places in America serve their gas more than the average price of $2.25, therefore costing a family more than just groceries. The prices of gas are not the only problem, so many other financial problems such as bills for water and power, mortgage, and other expenses.…

Flash forward to today, America has over forty-three million people that struggle with food security and over one-third of these people are children (Hauptmann, Cole). In terms of poverty, America is slightly worse as over forty-four million people are beneath America’s poverty line. While America has it way better than most other countries that have huge problems with hunger and poverty, America is definitely not perfect. The systems set in place in the 1970’s to alleviate hunger and poverty in America are now overtaxed and misused. Over 25% of federal disability claims were found as unnecessary and seemed to take advantage of only minor…

Unfortunately, the American Dream has slowly faded due to many factors. According to the Pew Research Center, in 1971, 61% of Americans were considered to be a part of the middle class. Today, the percentage has dropped rapidly to 51%, and within that, 35% are living off of $35,000 or less (Hartmann). With this in mind, the middle class is slowly shrinking while the gap between social classes widen. Because the middle class makes up the majority of the population, it is obviously not good news when a lot of Americans are slowly slipping closer to the poverty line. if the majority of the population is not doing well, the country itself as a whole is not going to be stable either. In other words, it is not the American Dream. In addition to the middle class shrinkage, pessimism in America has risen, and the hope for the American Dream has fallen. In the late 1990s and the early 2000s, Americans were optimistic about the dream because…

Secondly, the cost on public transportation is always less than owning a car. The monthly cost on TTC is about 120 dollars, and normally people will spend 30000 dollars on buying a new car or 15000 dollars on a second-hand one, this amount is hundreds times of the cost on public transportation. Furthermore, the cost of owning a car is not end yet, people must pay for their car insurance and there is no such cost on public transportation. Another point is the cost on parking, which people used to forget about. People have to pay for the parking when they go out for food, or watch movies at theater otherwise they are going to receive tickets. If people record the cost on parking everyday, the money they spend on this is huge. These kinds of worries are not going to happen if you ride public transportation everyday. And I think this is one of the main advantages of public transportations.…
