Death becomes a passage from pain a failure to eternal love and happiness. According to the poem, death is more peaceful than rest and sleep. In the poem death transmits a sense of security to the reader. Which is quite ironic because it suggest that death should not be feared at all. It is considered one of the best poems of John Donne. It was written in 1610 but wasn’t published until 1633. here are a couple of major elements of poetry that one can say should be in every poem. Those would be imagery, assonance, rhyme and meter. This poem does not include imagery. Nevertheless, this poem does include Assonance. “Much pleasure, then from thee much more must flow,” this verse, assonance and alliteration collaborate to create a powerful image of mocking death.
