The evidence will show that Herbert was the most responsible for his death which is all located on page 36. The first evidence in the text is “Well, wish for two hundred pounds”, said Herbert. You can see by the quote that Herbert is the one that gave the suggestion to wish for 200 pounds. This also shows that Herbert is messing with
fate. The second piece of evidence is “Well, I don’t see the money” “And I bet I never shall”, stated Herbert. This shows that Herbert foresees his own death because his parent got the after his death. Therefore, he is deciding his own fate by stating he never shall see the money. The last evidence from the text is “Something horrible squatting up top of the wardrobe watching you as you pocket your ill-gotten gains.” You can again notice how he is stating the future because “something horrible” is Herbert. As shown, Herbert is responsible for his own death.
Herbert gave the suggestion, decided his fate, and predicted the future. It is quite obvious that Herbert was the cause and the effect of his own death. So, who is responsible for Herbert’s death? From my examples, from the text, Herbert is responsible for his own death. I have come to the conclusion that Herbert is the logical explanation. Since he stated, “Well, I don’t see the money”, “And I bet I never shall”.
