Most Responsible For Death In Monkey's Paw By W. Jacobs

Have you ever thought that making a wish could turn out to be bad? In the “Monkey’s Paw” by W.W Jacobs, a family is torn apart, when a cursed paw is given to Mr. White. Herbert is the most responsible for his own death, which will be seen through several examples from the text. In the “Monkey’s Paw” Herbert is the most responsible for his own death, here are a few examples of how. “well, wish for two hundred pounds.” (page 36). This quote shows that Herbert is responsible for his own death because he told his dad to wish for the two hundred pounds. This also show that he is responsible because, after he wished for the two hundred pounds the paw moved. “Herbert sat alone in the darkness, gazing at the dying fire, and seeing faces in it.”
(page 36). You can see by this that Herbert is responsible because the fire symbolizes evil or death and the face that he saw was him. This shows that he foresees his own death. “Well I don’t see the money…” “and I bet I never shall.” (page 36). This is because after he died, his parents received the money for his death. As shown Herbert was responsible for his own death. I never thought that making a wish could turn out bad but, after reading the evidence I think that it can, because Herbert wish didn’t turn out to be a good wish. The examples from the text prove that Herbert is the most responsible for his own death. Since he was making jokes about the paw and didn’t believe it was real, he died. Be careful what you wish for, it may not be what you want.
