In the play “Death of a Salesman” written by Arthur Miller, Miller shows Happy as a young, handsome, successful man who is working in some company as an assistant manager when in reality he is just an assistant of an assistant manager, Happy himself is trying to make himself appeal more than he is. Throughout the whole play we can see that Happy as a flat character but sometimes we can see that Miller actually makes feel sympathy for him. One of the most obvious ones is that during all Happies life he lived under a shadow of Biff both at school and at home. In one of the Willy’s reminiscence Happy says: “I losing weight, Pop” and Willy just says: “Jumping rope is good too.” This shows that Happy is trying to attract his dad’s attention as much as he can but Willy just doesn’t pay any attention to him. Miller makes feel sympathy for Happy in this way by showing that even if you achieve American dream you will lose something else like normal people
