Many people may ask why would the declaration of independence give us the right to alter or abolish the government …show more content…
that we have. This would be because of a destructive government or Tyranny. This would give the people the right to overthrow the government and create a new form of government or fix it. “As the course of human events winds its way through History, it has found some paths lead to tyranny and some to liberty.” stated in The Declaration of Tea Party Independence (Doc D).
One of the most important rights in a democracy is “the rights of the people must be the based consent of the governed” according to the document “The Consent of the Governed: Essential Principles” (Doc C).
What this means is that our government should depend on the consent of our people, as expressed in things like voting elections to choose presidents. This is important because it is up to the people to set up and run the government. Not the government because the government does not run the people. A good example of why this is important is in the spring of 1989 where Chinese university students protested in Tiananmen square beijing. This is due to corruption in the chinese government and called for a change to democracy according to “Tiananmen Square Massacre 20 Years On” From The news website the Telegraph (Doc C).
Another important part of a democracy is equality among all people no matter what sex or race. This is because, “That all men and women are created equal” according to the “Declaration of Sentiments” (Doc A). Equality is important because it is the base to a fair society where everyone has the same opportunities. A good example is Diana Pham whose daughters were able to go to a university and had an equal opportunity even though Diana and her husband where refugees (Doc A).
The last and most important point in the Declaration of Independence is the Right to life ,liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The reason i think this is the most important out of the other
three ideas is because they are your natural god given rights and without them there is no real meaning in life.
