Deep Sea Creatures It is a frequently asked question. What animals live deep under the sea? There are many mystical and elusive organisms that live deep under the sea. We don’t know much about these animals. There is so much more to know about them that scientists haven’t yet been able to find. These creatures are peculiar looking, and contrast a lot from the land animals we usually see. One of these animals has a lure to catch prey that glows like a lightning bug (McGrouther, 2014). Another even has the most vertebrae of any animal on earth (gma.org). You will find many other interesting things about them in addition to what has already been discussed. …show more content…
Scientists have not yet been able to determine the maximum lifespan of the Giant Tube Worms. While they have been known to live for 250 years, we have no proof that they can’t live longer. The Giant Tube Worm doesn’t have many predators, but when they feel threatened, they hide inside of their tubes. They have tubes made out of chitin that they live in. The tubes also serve as protection. Chitin is a tough material found in the bones in the outer skeleton of some kinds of invertebrates, and is also found in the cell wall of some fungi. A colony of Giant Tube Worms live together in one mass of tubes. They can live in an environment with a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius (ARKive). The Giant Tube Worm is red colored. This is because of its body’s high levels of haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that makes them red. The only part of it that you can see is its plume because they live inside tubes, as has already been stated. The plume looks much like the feather of a bird. The plume is made of many, many miniature tentacles used to absorb nutrients from the water around …show more content…
It has explained their behaviors and how their bodies work. The Deep Sea Anglerfish has an illicium with an esca on the end that glows and attracts prey (McGrouther, 2014). The Giant Tube Worms live in colonies inside of tubes made of chitin (ARKive). The Snipe Eel has 750 vertebrae in its body, which is the most of any creature on earth (gma.org). These are all deep sea creatures, which are not very well known. The elusiveness of these creatures have been the motivation to write this paper. It has been written to further educate the readers about creatures of the deep
