Definition Essay On What Makes A True Hero
Has anyone ever thought about what makes a hero? Do Batman and Superman come to mind? When people think of a hero they think of a person with special powers who protects the lives of innocent people from scary evil villains. This however, is not what defines a true hero. Three attributes that make a true hero are performing charity work, putting others before themselves, and being someone’s idol. Performing charity work is a key feature a true hero should possess. One may say, “Superheroes save the lives of an entire city. This is what makes someone a true hero.” This is true for some fictional character in a comic book, but what about real life people who cannot fly or have super strength? To be a true hero to others one should perform as much charity work throughout their lifetime, as much as they can. For example, donating food and clothing is one way of saving the lives starving people who are too poor to purchase food. Those who are poor may not be able to afford a home as well. Volunteering ones’ free time to go build a home with Habitat for Humanity is also part of charity work one could perform. From viewing the clips from this assignments and reading various articles regarding heroism, there are multiple aspects that determine exactly what a hero should be. Thus, the three types of heroes are everyday hero, superhero and famous hero. My three examples of heroes are Superman, my mother and the Mirabal sisters. The little things people do is important to someone else. Firefighters save people everyday in their home. Police officers can arrest the people who want to injure people. And Soldiers, they fight for our country, even if it means dying. Everyone's a hero, in everyone's opinion.…

A great poet once said “We grew up cheering for the underdog because we see ourselves in them” (Shane Koyczan To This Day). When you think of a hero what do you think of ? Is it a guy in a cape, or a mom who works three jobs to support her struggling family? When you read that comic book where hero starts as a regular person. Who is just like everyone that no one believes. Everyone was once an underdog even that hero. You kept your faith in someone or something no one else did. And by the end of that comic series that hero did not gain money or get a reward, they paid the overall price.…

This is why selflessness is another important factor in what it means to be a hero. A hero takes action for the purpose of helping others, without hidden motives or personal agendas. Heroes are willing to forget about their own needs when faced with the needs of others. One such example of selflessness is found in the story of Victoria Soto. The schoolteacher was only 27 years old when she gave her life trying to shield her young students during the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. This action shows selflessness in its most pure form, completely abandoning concern for oneself in the process of helping, or in this case saving, others. While sacrificing ones life to save another’s is an extreme example of this, it can also be found in the actions of the everyday heroes that surround us. A working single mother is an example of a selfless hero that we are surrounded by in our day-to-day life. While she isn’t literally giving her life for anyone, a single mother who has to work long hours and sacrifice sleep and other wants to provide for her children is displaying selflessness and most certainly establishing herself as a hero to her children and those around her. “A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares.” – Debi…

What does it mean to be a hero? Well when I was little , about four to five years old I thought a hero was a person that had a lot of super powers . A superhero like the ones in cartoons like Batman , Power Rangers , Superman, Spider-man, and 0thers. But as I kept growing I said I always asked myself what is a hero? Is it some famous person, super hero or what? I never did quite understand the meaning till about now. Now I completely understand, a hero to me is someone who would always be there for anyone, someone who would put others first before themselves. Someone who you can trust with just about everything. Someone who is terrified to do something but does it anyway. But the biggest thing of all is that they have self-trust. I think to be a hero you must be positive, out looking, mentally strong and have compassion. Not many people have these qualities because in the world today people have lost their compassion because they have their own problems. But still people help each other. Very few and I mean very few acutely stop to realize that you need help. Then even fewer do something about it. I cant call my self to be a hero a hero must be have the qualification of helping other people It is important to try to better yourself, to strive to make yourself a better person, to become a hero to yourself or perhaps a mentor for others. This does involve some sacrifices and self discipline. You must push yourself and not give up. I think I am capable of this if I put my mind to it, and stick to my commitments. I would like to be stronger, healthier, wealthier and control my mental abilities I am going to work on controlling my anger. By controlling my emotions, it could help me keep a job and make my parents proud of me. If I can become stronger, healthier, wealthier and have more control of my feelings and emotions, I will become a better person for my…
