Definition Essay: The Importance Of Integrity

What is Integrity? Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong morals and life goals. Integrity is a quality everyone wants to accomplish. When someone has this quality is shows the real person inside of them. Although, it seems easy to have a lot of integrity, you may not realize, but everyone breaks the rules of integrity at least five times a day. You probably won’t notice, because the slightest actions do not fit the standards. Integrity relates to everyone, every day. Whether you are in school, at home, or even at a friend’s house. You want your piers to think highly about you, and when applying integrity to your life, you will find that everything in life seems very smooth and clear. Everyone wants their
peers and elders to respect them and think that you are a good person. Maybe when you are at school, you try not to cheat on tests or homework, or when the teacher asks you a question you tell her the truth. Although, it doesn’t have to be just your teacher you want to impress in school. Maybe you want your classmates and friends to see you as a nice, loving person as well. When I was in eighth grade I did not have very much integrity at school.
I would occasionally ask my friends for homework when I did not have time to do it and would tell my teachers it was my own work. I knew I should have found more time, but sometimes I would want the easy way out. As well as asking for homework, I would often send it to others when they wanted it. Another example of this would be when I was done with a test early I used to sometimes help out my other classmates when they didn’t know the answers. Now that I am older and wiser I have realized that this was not the answer to success. I was harming myself and others in the form of getting too comfortable with cheating and
lying. Having integrity while you’re young can lead to good habits and opportunities to succeed as an adult.
Don’t think people won’t realize your honesty and loveliness, because no matter what someone will. When looking for a job and going to interviews this will come in handy. I guarantee that your employer will pick the honest and maybe less qualified candidate over the dishonest and qualified candidate. Knowing from my 14 years of experience of life, I can tell you that people like spending time with the fun and truthful person, not the doubtful and lying one. Tell the truth and love one another. It is the right thing to do and many people will appreciate it, like, teachers, parents, friends, and many other people you will meet in
life. Being truthful is the best thing you can have going for you in life. Do the right thing when no one is looking. Stay truthful to yourself and you will find great happiness in your future. Integrity is a great thing, so use it!
