Definition Essay: The Role Of Diversity In Our Society
Diversity is the tool that helps to drive evolution. From the begging of time, it has been evident that different races of the world have had to coexist and learn to interact with one another in order to survive. In order for any society to be successful; the society as whole must value the man differences among its people.
In societies all around the world; diversity can and should be viewed as a positive aspect. It allows individuals the chance to experience things outside of their norms. I think Diversity has many different definitions but only one true meaning. Diversity by definition is a range of different things. Diversity includes but is not limited to one’s race, gender, sexual orientation, customs, religion, abilities, age and citizenship. Collectively all of these are primary influences as they are used to shape us and guide us on our interactions with others. Diversity is not limited to the primary factors but also the thought, feelings and opinions that one forms after experiencing the different cultures. In the same way that our definition of Diversity differs so does the influences that help us to define it. There are many factors that keep people from stepping out of their shell and experiencing the vast cultures and customs of others. I think fear, uncertainty and discomfort have kept me from many experiences that have brought upon on me.
