Definition Essay: The Value Of Success
Success is an integral part of a good life. Everybody wants to be successful and everybody has the potential to be such. The familial environment that I grew up in and the habits that were instilled in me set me on a successful path. I consider myself to come from a successful family. My father was an esteemed judge in Iraq (I say was because he is no longer alive; he was killed after the break out of the war in Iraq in 2003). My mother graduated college with an engineering degree and taught electrical engineering at several high schools in Baghdad. Growing up between them, it was never ok to be lazy or careless and being successful was the optimum way of life. I was always encouraged to do well in school and give my best effort in everything. …show more content…
Anyone has what it takes to be successful, but not everyone is willing to go through what it takes to reach success. Success requires many ingredients, but there is not a given recipe that will produce success. It can be achieved in countless ways. Success is versatile and different from one person to the next. Everybody has a slight different definition of what it means to be successful. I think success has many different levels and it never really stops, because whatever level of success you reach, you can always make more progress. To me, success is being on the go and never succumbing laziness, having a goal in mind and working relentlessly to reach it, having a healthy attitude about life, and overcoming obstacles in our way. Success, in my opinion, is not exclusive to rich people or the elite. Success can happen to anyone, anywhere; it does not discriminate. However, I think that there is a proportional relation between being smart and being successful. The smarter a person is, the more likely they will be successful. Being smart enables you to navigate through life from all directions and knowing exactly what kind of consequences your actions will

Merriam-Webster defines the word success as “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect or fame.” The definition of success differs from one person to another. Most people work hard throughout their life to achieve goals and be successful in their careers. That might mean acquiring a secondary education, being able to provide for one’s family, achieving a life’s ambition, or acquiring wealth. However, to a homeless man living in a busy city of New York, success might simply mean attaining enough cash to purchase a small meal. Success through the eyes of a United States Marine may be avoiding death in order to see one’s family. Perceptions of success can be faulty. In most cases, one can be successful in one part of life and be a total…

Growing up, people have different goals in their lives, and sometimes without knowing exactly what they are going to do, they simply want to be successful in the future. Success is a word that has different meanings for many people: some of them think success is the wealth, for some it is just making the world a better place. Success does not happen overnight as describes Malcolm Gladwell, the author of the book called, “Outliers: The Story of Success”. In most cases it takes a lot of practice. Sometimes the past of a person or the place where he/she was born affects the future of that person. Referring to some facts from one of Gladwell’s…

Many people say wealth is the key to measuring success; they are wrong. Success should be measured upon ones happiness, the friends one has and if their goals in life have been attained. It is like saying you can never buy happiness. The American dream is often considered being affluent, but once one becomes rich- if ever- that's all he ever gains and won't be truly happy or successful. This is confirmed time after time again in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and in other readings and movies; it has in all probability been proven in your own experiences also. Success is like a rubber-band ball where you keep building and building upon it in hopes to make it a truly grand item to boast.…

From personal experiences my definition of success has differed greatly from time to time. This is similar to how success of a gang member is dependent on where they currently happen to be in their lives. On one day success was defined as getting out of bed and staying awake for me, just as how a gang member thinking about changing his life. Getting out of bed is quite an insignificant act on its own, but in that period of my life I was not able to function and this was considered to be quite successful. A gang member simply thinking about his life may not be a significant act on its own, but when he has…

It is possible to be born into a successful family, but it is not possible to be born successful. The responsibility of being successful falls greatly upon me as an individual. While others can give an opinion, theory, or share their beliefs it is ultimately up to me to make my own decisions. At most I can adopt someone’s beliefs, I can imitate their actions, or even mimic their behaviors, but no one else is responsible for what happens in my life. It is up to me to put forth the hard work and dedication to reach the level of success that I desire. It is my personal responsibility to choose the path for my life and I choose success.…

While some people equate having wealth and power as being successful, that is often not the case. Although earning and having money is an important aspect of our economy and existence, earning large sums of money is not an accurate way of measuring nor determining if a person is successful or not. Those who find true satisfaction in life, regardless of their wealth or social status, are the ones who have reached true success. As put into words by award-winning author Maya Angelou, "success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it." True success is achieved when an individual has reached a point in their life where their goals and achievements are meaningful and…

When you look someone rich or famous you automatically assume that they are successful. However, this is only an outward appearance. Most of the time these “famous” people are stressed way beyond what is noticed by the public. They are not truly happy because they are way too concerned with the way they live their lives since people are constantly watching their every move. The true meaning of success is to have “a good result, happy outcome” (“Success”). Estee Lauder once said, “I never dreamt about success, I worked for it.” Success is setting a personal goal and working hard toward it, and ultimately your hard work and dedication leads to a favorable outcome.…

Most people measure success monetarily. We spend the majority of our lives working towards success (“Defining success”). The word “success” is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. Individuals who would be considered successful in this generation are Kim Kardashian or even Justin Bieber. These celebrities simply live in the moment, without thinking about what their goals are. Everyone wants to be known for something. Success takes several different forms but because of societal issues we have lost sight of its true definition. To be successful is to have a purpose, to know where you're at, to know where you're going and to not be afraid to work for it.…

The true definition of success is the attainment of wealth, position and honors. I see success as a positive road to life. A path that leads you to a great healthy life. My generation finds it as graduating high school on time and going to college to have a career. Success means having a good amount of money to live your life wealthy. Quote “The tragedy of life doesn’t lying not reaching your goals. The tragedy lies in not having no goal.” Said Benjamin mays. Reaching your goals the right way and completely finished. I believe that completing your goals will lead you to a successful life. It will lead you to having a great life to live. How’s that? You follow your goals and you get what you want. What does success mean to you? Success is the ability to overcome challenges and to get to your desired outcome. Success depends on you, it is dependent only on what your desired outcome is. According to Abraham Lincoln success is expressed as “always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Abraham is expressing the importance of the resolution of success. I agree with Abraham there is nothing better than the resolution to succeed. To be more successful you have to make changes in your life, some of these changes are not so easy and conflict with yourself but in order to succeed there must be a change. This year I have to make some changes to myself in order to succeed.…

What is success? People may view success in many ways, for example, someone who plays soccer may think if they scored three goals that’ll be a success to them. Another kid may think trying their best and doing better than the last game is a success is to them. In my situation success varies because in my grades I believe that success is 4.0 or if I tried my best. In soccer, success to me is doing better than last game, like trying harder, making more passes, better dribbling, and fewer mistakes. Another example is playing a video game, many people think success is when they pass a level, but other’s may think to beat their high score is a success. My goals are high, but if I tried the best I can that’s success.…

The media and today's society have brainwashed the citizens of the world to believe the deceit that in order to be successful you need to have the largest house, newest car, clothes, five star dining, and to travel every other month. This is how success is defined, this is what many aim for. But it is not however how I was raised, my mom taught me that the definition of success, similar to life is in the eye of the beholder, and most importantly success should be a synonym for a person's happiness. You can drive a Bentley and live in a million dollar, but you're not truly successful you love what you do, and love accomplishing your goals more than receiving the award.…
