Love is something that everybody has a basic understanding of whether they or giving or receiving love. It is a feeling that no human being can live without. In my family, love was a big issue. At times , there were situations that arose where I felt as though I would not have made it without the love from my family. When one of my friends died my dad took of a few days at work just so he could comfort me during my time of grief. How often do we confide in someone that cannot be trusted? Well, we only confided in them because we were sad that we did not pass a test or got in trouble at school and did not want to tell our parents. What does family mean to you? “People you share love with a guess. I don’t think that it means only blood relation. Friends can be family because you can become so close and trust each other,” explained Bridgett Terry, the subject of my ethnography interview. What is family? She went on to describe that technically family is a social group made of parents and their children, whether they all live together or not. No matter where you are in the world, your family is always your family. It is not a geographically relative term. However, the concept of family can be less strictly applied to everyday life. For example, a person can have many different families. Some are of choice and some are ascribed. Some types of families may be preferred over…

What is love? I never knew until I was fourteen year old at my first horse show. My family has always told me that when I loved someone or something unconditionally for exactly what it was without expecting anything in return, and when I was away from whatever I loved I would feel like something was missing, and only then would I truly understand love. At that first horse show I understood what they told me. For me my first horse show changed my life, it made me feel so alive and I never wanted to leave. Everyone has their own definitions of love but mine is for a series of events and is much different from the typical "love" that most people understand.…

Although this statement is true, some would disagree and say that the meaning to the word “family” goes far beyond that simple definition. Many people consider friends, schoolmates, animals, friends of a parent, and co-workers to be their family as well. Your whole family can be made up of many people that are not necessarily your real family. The relationship you share with another individual classifies them as a family member. These people may not be your relative at all, but someone you feel a strong connection to for one reason or another.…

The definition of family has changed drastically over the years. According to dictionary.com, a family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. In the past few years, this traditional definition has changed. To be considered a family people do not have to be living in the same household or related by blood. There are many different factors that play into making people a family. A family does not have to be two parents with kids. There are lots of families whose parental figures are divorced or have lost a parent, and still consider themselves as a family. There are also married couples who cannot have children or do not want children but make a family by other means. For example, these couples have pets…

Love means many different things to many different people. Some people think of love in a romantic or sexual way. Some think of love from friends and family or even a pet. There are many different kinds of love, but what is it actually? The American heritage dictionary defines love as an intense affection based on familial or personal ties. If this is so, then how can someone feel love for random strangers. Like when someone sees a picture of a starving child and they want to help or the recent shooting in Las Vegas, did people not feel love for those who were hurt? Nevertheless, love is not something earned through knowing someone or doing good deeds, love is always there for you, it is not just an emotion or something that feels good, love…

    Definition of a Family

My definition of a family is similar to the definitions given by the Vanier institute and the Social Science institute. I believe a family is a group of individuals who want to be together and who trust each other and love one another (either as a romance or as a friendship or kinship). I do not believe that one has to be married or has to have children to be considered a family. In today’s times Burgess et al, as well as Murdock’s definition of a family would not match many of the families in our community. Our society is able to view different ways of living to still be called a family, for example today we would call a single mother with two children a family. This is because they care for each other unconditionally, and support each other’s needs. Jane Howard once said, “Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family: Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” I believe this is true, there is no set definition on a family because each family…

Love is something that we ourselves can not fully understand and draw to each other. It is something that we feel within our souls and thorught human life has been present. It is like our soul unexplainable, and cannot be examined because it is not like any other science that can be measured. Love is the only thing that humans need to feel complete. We all need love from our parents, our friends, and mostly our significant others.…
