Even though it might not seem that way Halloween could be interpreted in a various number of ways. This argument is for the purpose of seeing how people interpret the holiday of Halloween. On the actually day of Halloween is when all the trick-or-treating happens and all of the costumes come out. Some might associate Halloween with Devils Night which is every October 30th. Others might think of Halloween as a remembrance of their dead relatives which is called the Day of the Dead and is mostly famous in Mexico.
When you think of Halloween the most common thing to come to mind is the dressing up as favorite characters and getting free candy by going door to door yelling “Trick-or-treat”. This event happens every October 31st. Kids use it as an excuse to dress up in anything they want for that night. It varies from ghosts, a cheerleader, and also Elvis. They even have costumes for current celebrities so you could feel famous for this one night. Then it`s all about getting candy. Taking one of your old pillow cases and just trying to fill it up to half way will be an accomplishment because it is so big.
On October 30th is what is called Devils Night. This night is where a lot of vandalism occurs such as egging houses, and toilet papering trees. It’s dated back as early as the 1940s. But in the early 1970s the vandalism escalated to higher acts such as arson. Arson took place in more of the inner city rather than the suburbs. Detroit was the hardest city hit within this “Devils Night” because in 1984 alone there was more than 800 fires set. With that in mind Detroit would have 500-800 fires in a typical year, and these fires would start 3 days and nights before Halloween.
Day of Dead also is a recognized holiday that occurs around Halloween but doesn`t take place till the next day. On every November 1st families and friends gather to pray and to remember those who have died. They leave possessions of the deceased at the
