Democracy Is The Solution
This writing seeks to summarize and highlight the provocative reflections put forth in the novel "On The State Of Egypt" by Alaa Al Aswany. This writing's relevance shall be demonstrated by 1.) Highlighting the methodology of the delivery of the subject matter. 2.) Elevate cross-cutltural understanding of the subject matter discussed in the book, and 3.) demonstrate a greater degree of understanding of (and empathy for) civil strife that might result in Inter-Religinal Jihad. This writing will be presented in respect to the three main sub-sections of the book: The Presidency and Succession , The People and Social Justice, and Free Speech and State Repression with a brief introduction and conclusion of the book. Alaa Al Aswany (the book's author) seeks to educate and enlighten the reader on the plight facing his homeland of Egypt in reference to its religious, political, and social treatment of its most valuable natural resource... Its people. Al Aswany originally sought to soothe pain as a dentist but found that Egypt's pain extended far beyond a simple toothache. While studying Dentistry abroad in the United States Al Aswany had ample oppurtunity to obsreve and compare the religious and socio-political treatment of citizens of western countries with the treatment of citizens of Egypt. Alaa Al Aswany examined these stark differences and understood that when despotism and tyranny are the problem... Democracy is the solution. In the first sub-section of the book (The Presidency and Succession) Alaa Al Aswany gives the reader an understanding of the underlining problem that was facing Egypt and her people, the question of how her next leader would be chosen either through an honest democratic election or through hereditary succession.
