CENTRAL IDEA: Today I am here to talk to you about the symptoms, treatment and how to cope with depression in your daily life.
INTRODUCTION
I. I will take over your thoughts, control your needs and make you believe you are hopeless, worthless and helpless. I will drain the life right out of you, until you no longer want to get out of bed. Every one of you will experience me in your life time, whether it’s through your mother, uncle, sibling, best friend or even first hand. I have even taken lives, and I don’t discriminate against age, gender, race, religion, or profession. What am I? Depression. II. As a young child, I can recall being sad most of the time. Feeling lonely in a room full of people when I should be happy. With age, I began to realize this was not normal, though I didn’t know how to bring it up to anyone. After I had my first child at 17 the sadness and loneliness got even worse and my doctor said I had postpartum depression. I believe I had depression beforehand, but since I didn’t express my feelings to anyone, I wasn’t diagnosed. III.
