Derrick Rose Rape Case Study
Toyota Center witnessed the preseason opener between Derrick Rose's New York Knicks and Houston Rockets. Coincidentally, Rose needs to catch a flight 2,400 miles to Los Angeles the following day to face the woman accusing him of rape in courtroom.

Derrick Rose faced another drawback when he spoke about the case during the Houston game media conference. Thanks to journalists asking for information, Rose said that he will not settle for $21 million because he did nothing wrong. And so the court drama began because the lawyer on the opposing side cried foul for alleged violation of gag order issued by the court. Respondents to this specific case are supposed to keep mouths shut outside the courtroom.

Lawyer Waukeen McCoy laments that Derrick Rose has the upper hand because of his access to media platforms through press conferences. McCoy said that it is unfair for his client who is not as connected. However, the court declined to comment about McCoy's complaints until the whole context of Rose's statement is available. This minor legal detail could be resolved soon as the trial proper is about to begin, Chicago Tribune reported.

Bill Simmons, a former outspoken analyst for ESPN, was suspended last September for his critical comments of Rodger Goodell surrounding his handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident. Goodell claimed to have not seen the graphic footage of Rice knocking out his then Fiancé in a hotel elevator. Rice was handed a two game suspension for the domestic violence incident. Simmons, who was outraged by this decision, went on the air to call Goodell a liar, and said that his statement was “f—— b——-“. ESPN responded swiftly to Simmons’ remarks, handing him a three-week suspension. It is important to note that the prompt asks for an individual manager using his power to influence actions of any employee, but for this example if the entity ESPN is seen as an individual, the example will work. To analyze this, Simmons has two personality traits that are both on the extreme side, agreeableness and extraversion, which were contributing factors to his suspension. By suspending Simmons, ESPN sent a strong message to him to change his behavior, and speaking out against Goodell, and more broadly, the NFL, is not acceptable. There could possibly be several negative implications for ESPN following the suspension. First, fans of Bill Simmons could protest the network by no…

Biased testimony towards the defendant resulted in a prejudice jury. Very frequently, statements like ‘We heard the facts, didn’t we?’ or ‘Pay attention to the facts’ are expressed in the jury room. The 4th Juror cited that the murder weapon was a knife so unique that ‘the storekeeper who sold it to him identified the knife in court and said it was the only one of its kind he ever had in stock.’ The 8th Juror argues that ‘It’s possible that the boy lost the knife and that someone else stabbed his father with a similar knife.’ None of the Juror’s believes this possibility as they have already established their prejudices against the accused. The 10th Juror says ‘Let’s talk facts. These people are born to lie… They think different. They act different.’ These are not ‘facts’ but prejudice opinions made by the 10th Juror about the socio-economic status of the boy. It can assumed that the ‘facts’ presented in this case can be viewed as biased opinions and reports that impairs the true facts.…

Rose uses Juror 3 to show that certain jurors are wrong and that if they are not open minded and put their personal prejudices aside they are bound to behave unacceptably and be viewed negatively. Juror 3's biases and stubborrness to be able to see things from the eyes of others really restricts him from doing justice and giving the boy the trial he deserves as does every human, according to the American Constitution. He is immediately vocal about the supposed simplicity of the case and the obvious guilt of the defendant when he says 'The man's a dangerous killer. You could see it.' From the beginning it is evident that Juror 3 is narrow-minded and only sees things from one perspective; his own. As the story unravels Juror 3 is seen as violent and a bit crazy hence why Juror 5 asks 'What's the matter with you?' when he imitates the stabbing of the victim. Because of Juror 3's aggressive and stubborn nature he is unable to see that the defendant and his son are two different people and the importance of the trial and what it will mean to the 16 year old boy if found guilty. He thinks he is doing the world good by getting rid of one of 'them' therefore clouding his vision and making it impossible to do justice, which is similiar to Juror 10.…

For a long period of time women between the ages of 18 and 24 had the highest rate of rape and sexual assault victimization. Within that age range many of the victims have been identified as college students. In the vast majority of sexual assaults experienced by university women, the perpetrator and victim know each other in some way. According to the National Survey of College Women, 93% of sexual assault victims reported that they knew the perpetrator such as a classmate, friend, boyfriend or ex-boyfriend, or acquaintance (Ullman, Karabatsos, & Koss, 1999). Most of the student rapes or sexual assault incidents occurred while the victim was pursuing leisure activities such as a date, party, or hanging out in the college dorms. Among the student…
