In “The Campus Crusade for Guys” Sarah Karnasiewicz introduces Michael Thompson, a child psychologist who supports the life of American boys. Thompson is a bestselling author of “Raising Cain” and is an educational speaker on television for troubled boys. Although he supports American boys he has a daughter of his own, so he does not agree that boys should be given a better opportunity getting into colleges. Despite Thompson’s opinion on the opportunity for boys this is what is happening in colleges today (909).…
The Hunting ground was a great documentary on sexual assaults that go on on college campuses. The Hunting Ground shows us various students who where sexually assaulted at their local college campuses. After watching the movie, I gain a lot of knowledge on what really goes on behind some college campuses and how some college administrators use their authority to keep sexual assaults from the public eye . The Hunting Ground provides us with multiple students who allege that they were sexually assaulted at their local college campuses, and that the college deans ignored them or required them to provide evidence. The film provides us with evidence that many college officials in charge were more concerned with…
The PBS Frontline documentary “Rape in the Fields” reveals the gross atrocities of human rights violations against undocumented immigrant women throughout America’s vast farmlands. The group consists of a half-million female workers. Culturally they are from a male dominated society that migrates to the U.S. for economic opportunity. These women are underprivileged workers without access to learn English. They are unaware of American laws that protect persons from violence and crime. They are very afraid and focused on basic survival instincts. Because they are in this country illegally, they are afraid of being deported and lose their income. Fear keeps them from speaking out and uniting to make changes in their work environment.…
The first main sociological question in the "Fraternities and Rape on Campus" study performed by Patricia Yancey Martin and Robert A. Hummer was, "What characteristics do fraternities have that make them prone to objectification of women and more likely to commit gang rape on college campuses and why fraternities encourage the sexual coercion of women.…

As research unveils that women, regardless of age and race, have a high risk of experiencing sexual assault, the U.S. Government has responded with differing attempts at definition of sexual assault and legislature that protects victims. Over the years, these laws and policies have transitioned into providing more concrete definitions of sexual assault and rape, who is at risk, and where do victims go for help. For example, the Uniform Crime Report (2004) defines forcible rape as “[t]he carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.” A further definition of carnal knowledge is provided and incidents where it would be considered forcible rape. More recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2009) released a Frequently…
Rape culture is a term that was coined by feminists in the United States in the 1970’s. It was designed to show the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized male sexual violence. It can also be defined as a complex set of beliefs that encourage male sexual aggression and supports violence against women. Rape culture includes the images, language, laws and other everyday phenomena that we see and hear everyday that validate and perpetuate rape. Rape culture is the jokes, TV, music, advertising, legal jargon, laws, words and imagery, that make violence against women and sexual coercion seem normal. Research has shown that violent media encourages youth to be very tolerant of aggression towards a romantic partner and…
The team has created a research proposal for the research study of the number of sexual assaults on college campuses. The purpose of this research is to determine if educational and preventable measures about sexual assault are taken more seriously on a college campus, than there would be a decrease in the number of victims on college campuses. The paper will introduce the general area of study, rationale, literature and background review, method, design, procedures, analysis, timeline, and budget of this research proposal. Which campus will be next? It is not a question of if, but when and where? College is the first time students get to spend time without parental guidance. In fact, college is a place where many students learn about themselves, but are they safe? Campuses are filled with all kinds of students, including different ages. Unfortunately, not every student will have a positive mindset or the respect of others. Nowadays, the most assaults are happening on a college campus and this is a serious issue that can be prevented. Research claims that, “Eighteen percent experienced an attempted and/or completed sexual assault since entering college.” (NSVRC) On an average, that is, one in five students worldwide, but we can make those numbers decrease greatly with a few steps. Colleges and Universities should disperse preventions and have an education class for incoming and former students about the consequences of sexual assault in order to lessen the amount on campuses.…

As soon as you walk in the door you’re greeted by Jack, which he offers you a drink, and you take it. But what you didn’t know is that before you arrived at the party he had slipped some medication into it.…
What can teenagers learn from the effects of rape? The victim and the rapist? What had caused the offender to take serious actions? These questions are very serious and in some cases are unanswered questions. Why? Is the first and common question we ask the offender for the actions they have taken? New Zealanders’ react the same way every other nation react to a serious situation if they were to face a person who was assaulted. We should all learn that there is more beneath the mask; meaning no matter what or how a victim shows their emotions there is always more to what they are truly showing.…
