Describe R1 Response To Intervention
After reviewing both, answer the following questions:
a) Describe RtI. What is it?
a. Response to Intervention (RTI) is an intervention approach to categorizing students into three different Tiers (1, 2, and 3) to provide the best teaching to the students. Students placed in Tier 1 are usually taught in a whole class environment, they usually do not struggle to get through the material presented in class. Students in Tier 2 need more of a small group instructional environment, they usually can get through the material, but they might need a bit of teacher prompting along the way. Students placed in Tier 3 need to be taught in a more one-on-one environment. These students usually need a teacher to help walk them through the material being taught.

It impacts students with disabilities because it helps to prevent students from falling into the cracks. It allows all students to get instruction taught to them with as much inventiveness as possible. For example, students in Tier 3 might be on the borderline for being placed into special education, instead of determining whether or not they need to be placed in special education immediately, that student can receive more one-on-one time with the teacher to see if that boosts the student’s productivity and accuracy on assignments. If the student still continues at the same rate with the intervention, then it is determined to place the student in special education to receive more evasive approaches.
c) What are some of the problems with RtI identified by LDA (website)?
a. Some of the problems with Response to Intervention that was identified by the LDA website are the following: the availability of “scientific research-based interventions” for all ages and all academic domains, appropriate training of general education personnel who will be responsible for implementing RTI, the implementation of RTI in middle and high school, the awareness of the need of consistency in the design of RTI models across local school agencies, and the availability of controlled studies regarding the use of RTI in Specific Learning Disabilities

    Assessment and identification are key elements in education, in particular, special education. Assessing students is essential to knowing where to begin with a student. No matter what the student's ability is or is being, they all need to be assessed.     Based on research, there are four advantages for RTI. The first is that the early identification of behavioral difficulties will increase the likelihood of getting rid of the problem behaviors before they escalate severely.
