Or perhaps something more simple as in becoming more independent by learning how to do your own laundry. In the nine ways of resilience, I’m sure we have or at least will face a problem where these key ways are going to benefit us with knowledge. In the meantime, let me tell you about one of my first challenges where I needed to become more resilient in certain ways. It began in middle school when one of the biggest changes in my life happened. Letter grades! Even though that might not seem crazy, to me it was a big deal. A new way to set goals to reach for the top. In elementary I would get 4’s, 5’s, and even some 3’s. However I matured and starting to think more about my future. I saw middle school a way to practice for high school. In middle school, I knew that for me I could reach higher than what I have ever thought I could. My first resilient skill I needed to learn and practice, were relationships. At Las Juntas, I knew everybody. All the teachers, staff, and students that I have become friends with. It was much harder at MJHS because all these new teachers and students from other schools were so unfamiliar. I quickly realized that I had branch out, and bond with others to make middle school an exciting and memorable

When I hear resilience I think of a spring that when released from a stretched position quickly moves back into its original state. When applying the term resilience to people I think of someone being mentally strong so that when hard times a rise one does not shy away and remain in a saddened state. Instead, someone who is resilient bounces back from hard times quickly. They are able to put aside their sudden emotions transcending pain or illness until a later time. This allows them to focus on the task at hand. Having resilience also allows people to adapt to different situations because it is impossible to remove the positivity resilient people carry around with them. Resilient people see pain or bad times as only temporary states in the larger scheme of life. In addition, not only are resilient people…

Resilience has a different meaning to different people. Personally, I view resilience as a preventative approach as a result of inflicted threats. Resiliency is an important factor to have present in one’s life. Taking this resiliency quiz opened my eyes to how I am not as resilient as I thought I was. Some of the question asked in this quiz made me assess my own culture, such as gender and sexual orientation. A crucial part of being resilient is realizing what protective factors are present in one’s life. Many of the factors surprised me because I did not even know they were considered protective factors. Identifying the resiliency builders I would like to add to my repertoire was easy because a majority of those builders are not present in my everyday, and I would like to change that. However, I know it is going to be difficult to add these into my life. The resiliency framework is used in all aspect of social work. I decided to use it to promote resiliency in people with eating disorder. It is important for a person to have great environment protective factors so that they know…
