During the circus’s travels, it acquires a new member: an elephant named Rosie who is first thought to be useless, and during one episode learns to pull her stake out of the ground so she can repeatedly steal the circus’s lemonade, resulting in fits of rage by Uncle Al and hatred as well as harsh punishment from August. The elephant is later discovered by Jacob to not be stupid, but to only understand commands in Polish, after which she is trained and becomes the star of the show. Life is better than ever in the circus, and Jacob and Marlena fall more and more in love with each other, to the jealousy of August, who accuses his wife of cheating, hits her, and gets in a huge brawl with Jacob. After having an issue with one of his fellow students August’s mindset on friendship and school completely changes from “cool beans” (Palacio 69) to “[y]ou know Summer, you don't have to do this” (125). August also displays certain symptoms of regret after being so trusting and then being betrayed when he overhears Jack talk down about him. Due to August not having immense amounts of friends…

Via is August’s big sister and is very caring towards Auggie and is extremely protective of him. Via helps the reader get a better understanding of what August looks like and what he’s like at home. An example for this is when via says, “His eyes are about an inch below where they should be, about half way down his cheeks. They slant downward at an extreme angle, like diagonal slits down his face. His eyelids sag so much you can see the red in his eyes. It looks like a piece of invisible string pulling his eyelids down. He doesn’t have eyebrows or eye lashes and his nose is far to big for his face. He doesn’t have cheek bones and people sometimes assume he’s been burnt in a fire because all his features are melted. He has a few scars because of all the surgeries his upper teeth splay out. A piece of his hip bone was put into his jaw and he has no chin at all”. The author put this in the novel because it makes he reader think how hard it would be to have a face like that and can’t help feeling sorry for him.…
In this particular movie, there are three characters that I would like to focus on. Gilbert, is an older sibling who is primarily the caregiver in the home. Bonnie, the mother, and lastly Arnie, who is about to turn eighteen and has autism. Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. The diagnostic criteria require that symptoms become apparent before a child is three years old. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize.…
