The egg fertilizes on its own because the female shark is actually a hermaphrodite, this is actually very common in Bamboo Sharks. Sharks can also have intercourse with a partner, and this process is very violent. The male shark has two penises but only enters one into the female shark, and often leaves bite marks on the female, and also impregnating her. On average, a Bamboo shark is pregnant for 14-15 weeks while holding eggs without any partner needed to fertilize them. When they are in the process of laying, the eggs are generally about five to six inches long, and are laid in groups of 20 to 30. They are hunters that use smell to detect their prey. They mainly feed on smaller fish, but they help control over production of fish and crustacean population. According to the Wild Republic, “Bamboo sharks also have spiracles, which are openings behind the eyes that help them take in oxygenated water. Their fins are thin and not very muscular, and are mostly used for propping themselves up in the sand” (Wild Republic). These traits also help them catch their prey quickly and
