Same sex marriage should be legalized
The American dream is one of freedom and equality. This is supposed to be branded in the heart of every United States citizen, however, when it comes to homosexuals this dream is demolished. Homosexuals should be able to legally show their love for each other by having a marriage license. The prohibition of gay marriage is wrong because it is a prominent form of discrimination. Some people may argue that they don’t want their tax dollars being used for something they consider to be “wrong”, however, this is not the case. Marriage should be something that is celebrated for both heterosexual and homosexual couples.
Homosexuals should be able to legally show their love for one another by having a marriage license. They may be in love and wanting to spend their lives together, but to make this official they need the law to approve. Some may argue that “it is possible to do this without getting married”, however, they should be allowed to honor their relationship just the same as anyone else in the greatest way our society has to offer. There is no reason why two people should not be married based on their sexuality. If a man and a woman can marry because they are in love, why shouldn’t’t homosexuals who are able to love just as much as heterosexual people, be allowed to legally show their love for one another?
Denying homosexuals the right to marry is a prominent form of discrimination. Not only are homosexuals denied their civil rights, they are also denied economic and legal benefits. The government should not be able to legally prohibit someone from showing their love for another person; it does not uphold the basic principles of the constitution. The constitution clearly states there is a separation of church and state. In the United States, religious beliefs should not influence federal and legal matters.
