Topic: Gay Marriage
Thesis: Gay marriage has a major impact on today’s society, in regards to its legality, how future generations will be affected, and how it will affect the institution of marriage in the future.
Topic Description:
Gay marriage is one of the most controversial yet sensitive topics that have been discussed around the world. Politicians often hold debates on this subject trying to decide whether it should be legal for same sexes to be married. Gay marriage is often viewed as being wrong by religious people because marriage is portrayed as a woman and man uniting, not woman to woman or man to man. Others view gay marriage as an act that is protected by our constitution; we have the right to marry whomever we want as Americans. The United States being a free country is what other countries view us as, and for us to discriminate against gay marriage goes back on what we stand for.
Future generations play a major role in legalizing gay marriage though; children will be more open to the subject compared to today’s generation where people cringe at the thought of gays. Gays are embarrassed to be their selves because of what others may think. But legalizing gay marriage would show our openness to the subject. It would show that we welcome them with open arms.
Legalizing gay marriage would affect the role of marriage; people would probably think less of it because marriage’s origin came from Christianity, where man and woman became ‘one’, pronouncing their love for each other, not man to man or woman to woman. Legalizing gay marriage would affect the way that people think. It would cause controversy between America and other countries, other people from outside of the US probably would discriminate against us because we are too liberal. And we let our people do whatever they want. We already gave women all of the rights a man has; now we’ll give gays the right to
