Same Sex Marriage War (Rough Draft)
The Same Sex Marriage War Same-sex marriage is the Civil Rights Movement of our time. Same-sex marriage is also a big controversial topic. Over the course of history the majority of the people in the country have been against it, but it has change in flavor to supporting same-sex marriage. So far nine states have made it legal, and hopefully more to come. Same-Sex marriage couples should have the same rights as traditional married couples because it is illegal. They deserve their rights, it is immoral, and it brings economic benefits to them. Under the Constitution it reads that “all men are created equal”. Many times the U.S government has failed to live up to that standard. For same-sex marriage couples it is a financial mess, to have your marriage reorganize in one state then move to another where it is not. The Marriage Defense Act should be change just as the Civil Rights Act was extended for other groups. This needs to be legal, in a democracy way, and put it into a vote by the people in each state to decide this social issue once and for all. The most common argument by the people who oppose it is that it is against what is written in the Bible. While marriage is an important part of the Bible, it doesn’t mean it’s exclusive to just that. Marriage is not just a private contract between two people. When two people are married, it shows there local community there status in society. Marriage does not dependent on any religion, it is a civil right. (Cline) The payoff of legalizing it would bring a significant amount of revenue to the economy. According to CNN Money ever since same-sex marriage was made legal in New York in 2011. The increase in marriage license fees, local celebrations and wedding-related purchases have generated millions of dollars for New York’s economy. ( Ellis 2012) Which also means it creates jobs, and the country would greatly benefit from it. According to a 2004 report by the Congressional Budget Office, same-sex marriage could generate an estimated $1 billion per year for the Federal budget if it were legalized nationwide. ( Ellis 2012) Same-Sex Marriage is still an ongoing debate across the country. But it deserves to be legal all around the country so same- sex couples can have their marriage can recognize in all states. Having marriage ban for same-sex couples is just immoral, it should not be exclusive to just traditionally couple. Even if some people are against it, having the same-sex marriage couples will bring economic benefits to the country. Over time same-sex marriage will be legal in the entire U.S eventually.
