Mystery surrounded the school for many decades referring to the actual beginning of the school. Diplomas found in the school vault show that the first students were in 1882 and the first graduating class was in 1886 with that class containing only four students. At the time the school was a small barn that could only accommodate those four students, but in 1895 the school built a two story wooden building with an auditorium, science laboratories, and library which the school was made to fit 250 students. Our rivals Jefferson and Plant don’t compare to how beautiful the school is. They are seemingly the same as every other high school in Tampa, but Hillsborough tops them all especially the auditorium it has a breath taking 15th century church style to it with the windows craftily and colorfully depicting different instances in time. The bell tower which students bought to pay respect to the men that attended the school and fought in the world wars in 1930s and 1940s would make you think the school is some sort of university. That’s the first thing that catches your eye and leaves you breathless. I’m still surprised the clock tower chimes every time at noon, thought it wouldn’t work after all these
