The Set & Prop Designer should stop assuming that the whole production will be able to take place without any hiccups. She often comes to the rehearsal without preparing enough materials. Most importantly, she likes to do last-minute changes, for example if the props do not match the mood of the set, she will ask us to go to the nearby shopping centres to locate the props that she might need.
B. What is the effect of this practice or habit?
This habit will delay the progress of the production. It was fortunate that we had enough manpower to run errands for her, if not the rehearsals would have been dragged longer. By not having contingency plans, such as preparing extra props, it is a risky act as no one …show more content…
A. What is the practice or habit?
The Set & Prop Designer should start to consider all aspects of a production that contributes to the overall effect. I said this because she was more concerned about her own set design and not taking into account other aspects such as whether the casts will be comfortable in that particular setting or whether it complements with the lighting effects.
B. Does the Set & Prop Designer already have a similar practice or habit?
I notice that the Set & Prop Designer becomes self-centered when it’s not involving important personnel e.g. Director or Production manager. One of the habits that I would like the Set & Prop Designer to continue is her punctuality. On a few occasions, she arrived earlier than the director. There was no need for her to come in that early as the casts have not turned up too, nevertheless she still took the effort to report before call time to check on the set design and props.
B. What is the effect of this practice or habit?
The effect will be that the Set & Prop Designer has more time to finish up any remaining work that was left behind previously, and it would not hinder the progress of the production. Besides, it also shows that the Set & Prop Designer has good working ethics and is dedicated to the production.
C. What would be the result of stopping this practice or habit?
If the Set & Prop Designer arrives late for the production, it might hold up the production. The Production Manager might have a list of agendas that she wants to complete for the day and if it involves the Set & Prop designer, then everyone in the Production team has to wait for her before proceeding on to the rest of the work. At the end of the day, this does not leave a good impression and destroys her
