Destino Love

While watching the short film Destino, a collaboration of illustrations between Salvador Dali and Walt Disney, I was able to notice the theme of ill-fated love. At every turn, there was an obstacle that would detour the two characters involved from being able to be with one another. The short film begins with a young woman approaching a statue of what looks to be a man holding a clock, the woman goes through a series of changes to ultimately "find herself". Her dress is burned and she is seen going back into a shell literally, this can be interpreted as her being naked caused her to become insecure. After the woman finds a new dress by taking the shape of bell and dives into the shadow of it which allows her to find herself once more after
This can be seen as time being an obstacle for the two as it is a common situation that happens to couples,"the right love at the wrong time". Throughout the film it is also depicted that the woman brings life to the man, as she is able to bring him to life, birds to life and ants to life, literally and metaphorically the woman and or her love is able to bring the man to life. The two go through more obstacles that keep them from being together, but the final one is where the man thinks he has finally reached his beloved. The man is holding a heart that turns into the shape of the woman but the heart then continues changing into her dress, the man is saddened. The man was not able to reach his love and returns to his statue state, but there is a new hole where his heart is supposed to be. The camera zooms in on his hole and the bell, which is actually the woman is seen filling up the hole found in the man's heart. The film then ends with that scene, which can be interpreted as him holding her dear to his heart.
