DESTINY IS IN YOUR OWN HANDSThe
DESTINY IS IN YOUR OWN HANDS The above proverb as a concept is being proved everyday in the modern society. Man is the maker of his own destiny. It was not providence which propelled the cave-man to discover the use of fire - it was necessity - fire was necessary to help him to cower down the powerful wild beasts which infested his habitat. From time immemorial, man has been labouring hard to change his lot - to make his environment more conducive to his living and more responsive to his demand. We have all heard the fable, in which a carter on seeing the wheel of his cart being stuck in the mud, prayed to Jupiter to get it out for him. Jupiter answered his prayer and directed him to put his shoulder under the cart and push it out. The man did just that and got the cart out of the mud and again embarked on his journey. This simple fable shows that man can alter his destiny by his deeds. Courage and hard labour is needed to overcome any adverse situation. It is the weak and the lazy which try to rationalise the outcomes of their laziness by taking refuge to the concept of destiny. Actually, the way we sow is the way we reap. If we do not make efforts, desist from working hard or remain indecisive in the face of adversity, then the problems in our life start getting insurmountable - ready to gobble us up. What is needed is to take hard and follow it up with patient labour and perseverance. Under such conditions, the problems themselves start to decrease and life becomes easier. The right decision taken at the right moment brings about the solution and destiny as such has very little or no part at all in it. We must therefore continuously strive for our own betterment. Without asking the astrologer for his opinion on a certain venture, one should have faith in his own judgement and take the advice of those who have trodden the same path. That way one would be better placed to achieve the real success. For the faint hearted and the believer of destiny, success is

People say that fate is unavoidable, but, through my personal experiences, it has come to my realization that one’s fate is in their own hands. A person’s actions determine their fate, which is why I believe that life is essentially defined by a person’s free will. An instance in my life, when my fate was being defined by my actions was when I moved from Jersey City to Erie. Since I did not approve of this move, my thoughts made me believe that what was about to happen was just life being unfair, in other words, my fate. Now I have come to understand that this move could have been avoidable; I was given a chance to stay, if only I would have improved my grades and gotten into the high school that my parents wished for me to go to. Alas, I did not take that situation seriously, and I paid the consequences by having to leave my…
