Diagnoses of Patrick Solitano Jr. from Silver Linings Playbook The character for whom I've chosen to do my analyses on is Patrick Solitano Jr. or Pat for short as portrayed in the film. Pat is a former teacher with a likable and inviting personality about him but can be tell by the naked eye he has some issues going on in his head. In the film he has just spent 8 months in a mental health facility and comes to live with his parents. The reason for his 8 month in the mental health facility was him coming home early from work and finding his wife Nikki naked in the shower with the history teacher Doug Culpepper. Seeing that sparked an overwhelming anger inside of him that caused a manic episode and he beats Doug to near death. Surprised and frightened by her husband's actions Nikki files a restraining order against him. Feeling horrible by his actions Pat feels he is obligated to make things better by improving himself both mentally and physically try and win back his wife. Pats parents Dolores and Patrick Solitano Sr. yet not stray far from pat and personality. Dolores Solitano is very passive and despite both her husband and son having disorders of their own she stays to being a very caring and attentive mother and wife as she is. Pat Sr. is a very superstitious man with a very moderate sense of OCD when it comes to a Philadelphia Eagles game day. Pat Jr. does not like to be compared to his father Pat Sr. for his manic episodes although no one ever compares them out loud in the film, all of his claims are based on assumption. Pat Sr. is known for having a couple of outbursts of his own, typically during an Eagles game for which he is very passionate about. So I think while being raised Pat Jr. grew up in a very loud household with frequent outburst from his father so behaving that way was seen as not abnormal behavior for him and it shows the

Therefore, the main character is dynamic, he suffers a complete shift in his behavior that is clearly portrayed in the way he narrates his experiences with his friends and Shawna. Richard illustrates himself in different circumstances that give the reader different sides to his current life. He is an addict; however, he does not fulfill all the stereotypes of one, he is also browbeaten, which seems to be normal in his current life because of the way he expresses the event in which he is being robbed. Nevertheless, the reader sees him as a friend and a lover once the melioration begins. Because of this, his development as a character is round, he is battling in some of his sides as narrated during the introduction, though, he starts to find relief in some of his others. The beneficial development on Richard as the story moves forward supports the story’s…

The main character had a terrible relationship with his father. They didn’t see eye to eye at all. The father just took him to baseball games and left him there with an usher that he paid to watch him. The absence of a father figure was significant to his childhood. When he grew up he tried to be anything but that memory. He was involved in his children’s lives. This would be a family theme where the parent separates themselves from the child, so they could attend to their own matters in life. The next theme can be seen in the family that has the young girl being feed information like a sponge ruining her childhood so she could get ahead intellectually. The parents did not see her as a child but as some sort of machine. It is not the proper way to raise a child. She was socially awkward and didn’t have the social skills to socialize with the other children at Kevin’s birthday party. This theme is where the parents treat the child as an object rather than a living being. The next one is in the single mom with the two kids. She struggles to support for her family and her children disrespect her all the time. The son was so distant from her and left all the time, while the daughter was in love with a troubled boy. The son was having problems with himself since she went through puberty and he didn’t have a father figure to explain all the changes in his body and while he was feeling certain things. Todd became that father figure when he married the boy’s sister and got to explain what was happening through experience. This helped out the single mother trying to support her two children. The youngest son and brother of Gil the main character displayed the same type of parenting as the grandfather did with Gil, abandoning his child and dumping him with whoever would take care of him.…

One significant facet of Smith’s character is the fact that her story holds the family accountable for their actions. Each of them, in one way or another, played a part in a sequence of events that led to her eventual demise. The Inspector, who took on a role similar to one of a judge in a courtroom, says she was a “pretty, lively sort of girl, who never did anybody any harm.” Furthermore, he highlights that her promising life was brought to an abrupt halt, given the “nasty mess somebody’s made of it.”…

He didn’t let his child to enjoy her life as a child. He just fed Patty with knowledge and other complicated things and never let her feel the feeling of what a normal little girl should feel. That made him an authoritarian parent; the one that discourages expressions of disagreement. He has strict standards; he wants Patty to be a perfect human. As a result, Patty was unsociable with other children. She was unfriendly to others. She was withdrawn and was acting and reacting weird to situations that seems normal to other children (an example is the “thumb magic” of Gil to the children; others had fun with that magic while Patty screamed and ran away. Maybe that’s because of too many scientific facts in her head that made her think that that magic was disgusting.) Another scene that showed Patty being different from other children was in the party of Kevin; she saw a boy turning around and around, she asked her mother what was the boy doing, that means that Patty was unable to do the things that a normal child experiences, which is doing silly things and enjoying those silly…

The individual here either has no control of when to stop talking or is pressure to keep a conversation going. In most cases the individual does not consider the consequences of saying something before they say it, being honest even if it’s brutal. We can consider people like this not having a filter while speaking and being blunt. Also, the individual will freely interrupt another person while conversing. Throughout the movie Pat has no filter. It was first noted when he first arrived home. His mother Dolores discretely told him before entering the house that his father lost his job and is now bookmaking to earn money to open a restaurant. Once he encounters his father he confronts him, keeps asking many questions non-stop, no pauses, until…
