Dialectical Journal Chapter 18 Analysis
CHAPTER 18

MELTING MARBLES

Checkpoint Halo

It was New Year’s Day, and the coffee pot was brewing some fresh coffee. Jerry and Gordon were discussing the raid activities, and Sally was checking to see how many hits Abu received from his YouTube announcement. Suddenly, the doors of the bunker started to open. Instinctively, Gordon and Jerry grabbed their pistols and ran to see who was coming in. A Jeep Cherokee drove down the ramp and stopped before reaching the bottom.

A lanky fellow with bushy red hair and thick glasses stuck his head out the window and yelled, “Hey, guys, it’s me, Lester! Don’t shoot!”

“It’s Lester!” Sally shouted, running to greet the unexpected intruder. Lester parked his car next to the Mercedes, and the bunker

Colonel Mathis, Base Commander, Ellington Air Base, made arrangements to have Abu Baghdadi transported to Washington D.C. She found a pilot who needed some flight time – a SMITE member. Although the co-pilot who would be going on the flight was not a SMITE member, he would be told the CIA was transporting a captured foreign terrorist to Gitmo via Andrews Air Base in Washington, D.C.

Colonel Anne Mathis was very much a part of the Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi sting operation. She realized the critical necessity of removing Abu Baghdadi from the terrorist scene. She also realized, as a member of SMITE, that normal protocols were often packed full of obstacles which were designed more for achieving political correctness than for getting the job done.

Colonel Mathis knew that roads would be filled with police looking for any kind of suspicious activity, so she let Sgt. Emerson use her specially designed exempt-plated military Humvee. Frank would have to drive to the Halo Bunker, pick up Abu, and drive back to Ellington Air Base. The plan was to have Jerry personally escort Abu on the plane back to SMITE Headquarters in Falls Church. If everything worked according to plan, Frank, now retired General Halsbrook, would take Abu to the Pentagon and hand him over to the Military

He seemed to welcome a trip to the portable bathroom. Jerry escorted him to his seat in Sergeant Emerson’s Humvee and literally tied him to the seat. Goggles with tape over the lenses were placed over his eyes to prevent him from backtracking Halo’s location.

Gordon decided to let Sally take him to the airport, enabling him to fly back to Ontario. The Mercedes would be left in the bunker for disposal at a later date, as it had become a “hot” car. The group staggered their departure times so as not to raise any flags. Halo’s doors closed behind the group, preserving for future use a secret place that provided all the comforts of home—and a story that not too many people would believe.

Sergeant Emerson drove the Humvee down the main street of Dayton. A couple of Muslim girls walked together down the sidewalk. Jerry noticed a glance from Abu in their direction. The word “complexity” popped into Jerry’s mind. He thought of the “complexity” that man somehow managed to inflict on personal relationships – “complexities” that were so unnecessary, almost to the point of being ridiculous. The relationship between a man and a woman was designed to be a beautiful, natural phenomenon -- based on companionship, love, harmony. Jerry could not understand how anyone could regard women as second-class citizens, requiring them to cover their bodies and subjugate

We've recently watched the movie 23 Skidoo both in class and on our own time at home. When I first saw it in class, I was a bit confused and I didn't really understand what was happening in the film. After re-watching it, I understood that it is a film about a post-nuclear bomb explosion. What's different about this movie is that there is no narrative, or actors, but there is music. I find that it makes you concentrate more on what's happening in the film because no one's explaining it to you. The music featured in the film wasn't continuous. It made the setting more mysterious because sometimes, the music would be almost scary sounding, and you'd think that something was about to happen. It made me create other scenarios…

In the letter from Scout to Jem, we see Scout's’ point of view and how she feels. It shows that she is sad that Boo gave them so much and they did not give him anything in return like a good neighbor should have. To convey this, a flowery background symbolizes a neighbor's job to look after one another and the items in the pouch exhibits what Scout and Jem were given I feel that this establishes a feeling of growing maturity because the flowery background also symbolizes the growth of a young girl at the stage of coming of age experiences were a young bud becomes a flower not yet too old to shine like glitter which reveals that pouch holding items is like the pouch of a mother kangaroo because they hold their young in that pouch and Boo cares…

“Brothers and esteemed fathers,” Paul said, “listen to me as I offer my defense.” When they heard him speaking in their own language, the silence was even greater. Act 22-1-2 (NLT).Paul describes to us in the in the next (1-22) verses his story. Now think of your story and the details which wrap you up and wrecks your brains with thoughts as it robs you of your inner peace. If the looping stories are bringing up more anger and bitterness then you might want to search for a better story line to tell others. You know Jesus spent much of His life undoing false stories and replacing them with truer, better and richer ones. When we exchange our sinful, false, painful stories for God’s truer ones we find that over time we also change…

Emily's iron- gray hair has chronological significance in the story. First, the hair belongs to Emily, who had sometime slept on the bed beside Homer Baron's dead body, near where it was found. This term “Iron-Gray” had only lied within passage 4 in paragraph 6 when the narrator describes changes in appearance of Emily: “During the next few years, it grew grayer and grayer until it attained an even pepper-and-salt iron- gray, when it ceased turning”(Faulkner, 4.6) this happened during the period of 6 or 7 years when she gave out china-painting lessons after Homer disappeared. Second, the phrase “Iron- gray hair” has connotations that can be applied to the story. The word: “Iron” could mean stubborn, or iron willed. Stubborn is definitely a describing word for Emily. The group of narrators describes a time when Emily came to pick up a bottle of Arsenic from the general store: “Why, of course”, the druggist said, “if…

Boom! The sound snaps us all to life, ensnaring our senses and shaking every fiber of our beings. In less than ten seconds we're all on our feet and almost in complete chaos. I snatch up my gun and the first few of us rush out of the barracks to find the colonel for orders. Boom! This time the blast is right behind us and our barracks bursts into a roaring wall of flames. The blast sends us falling face first to the ground. All of our fellow soldiers, our friends, were still inside and now the building is crumbling in a massive inferno. "We have to move!" Chris says, leaping to his feet, and the three of us run through camp and locate the colonel. "Grab a gun and form up on the coast line. We don't need to fight on two fronts." He orders us.…
