Diane Ferra Interview Summary
The interview with school nurse Diane Ferrara has lead me to believe that all of what we have learn in this SPE-358 course are dead on point in many ways. She spoke about using universal precaution which we learn during this course when dealing with body fluids and blood. The author of this summary has worked with Ms. Ferrara over the past eight years and witnesses her using many of these strategies and techniques over the years, with a number of students’ that I had knowledge of having infectious diseases. Ms. Ferrara also spoke on teachers learning more about their student’s health history and the importance of reading the student’s IEP, where allot of this information may be listed. During the interview with Ms. Ferrara she was asked
about the protection of student’s personal health information, which she stated that the Commission school district has a S.O.P which all employees must obey, she further spoke on State and Federal guidelines that are put into place to protect the student and parent’s personal information. During this course the author’s research covered the HIPPA Act which was design and put into place to protect the personal health information of students. The act covered how must of the student’s information is to be shared by the school nurse and who it is to be shared with. During the interview with Ms. Ferrara the author was informed on this importance of universal precaution and the importance of learn all you can about your student’s health history and the protection of the personal information that is obtained. With all of this knowledge that the author has obtain will be placed into his personal educational tool box for future use.
