Diary Of A Part-Time Indian
In the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the main character Junior describes himself very detailed. The way the main character explains about himself, he explains that he wasn’t very normal like other people. For example, he mentions the water in his brain (brain damage), having 42 teeth, etc. When transferring to an all-white school, it was hard to transition himself into that because Junior didn’t know anyone and he was the nerd of his school. Meeting Rowdy had a big impact on his life because he protected him, cared and both shared confidential information between each other since Junior trusted him so much. First, as Rowdy and Junior becoming best friends, they were really close. Rowdy always had his back, anyone who would mess with Junior they …show more content…

In the first few chapters Junior explains about his relationship with his friend Rowdy and what it is like hanging out with him, “Rowdy isn’t a fast reader, but he’s persistent. And he’ll just laugh and laugh at the dumb jokes, no matter how many times he’s read the same comic. I like the sound of Rowdy’s laughter” (Alexie 23). On Thanksgiving day, Junior went over to deliver a cartoon for Rowdy because he missed him, “Rowdy’s dad took the cartoon and stared at it for a while. Then he smirked. ‘your kind of gay, aren’t you?’ he asked. ‘Can you just give it to him?’ I asked. ‘Yeah, I’ll give it to him. Even if it’s a little gay’” (Alexie 103). They have both been best friends for a really long time, when Junior finally decides to tell Rowdy he was leaving the rez, Rowdy didn’t take it easy on him, “My heart broke into fourteen pieces, one for each year that Rowdy and I had been best friends. I started crying. That wasn’t surprising at all, but Rowdy started crying too, and he hated that” (Alexie 52). Even though Rowdy was a hot head around others this was one of many of the examples that he was very caring towards

In this section of the novel, Rowdy and Junior reconcile over a discussion on how most Native American’s are no longer nomadic as their ancestors used to be, and the only nomadic person on the entire reservation was Junior. Knowing that he and Rowdy would part ways someday or another, Junior started tearing up. Rowdy tells him to stop crying and throws him a basket ball, and the two play until the sun sets. This illustrates the emotional side of Junior by showing that he often can’t control his feelings and emotions. Junior realizes himself that he can get emotional at times, and this can be seen on page (FILL IN THE PAGE WHEN YOU HAVE THE BOOK), where he says,” And that made me cry. Man, I’ve always cried too easily. I cry when I’m happy or sad. I cry when I’m angry. I cry because I’m crying. It’s weak. It’s the opposite of warrior”. The…

Johnny and Dally share one big similarity and that is that they both have abusive parents. Johnny’s parents don’t pay any attention to him or they beat him, that really bugs Johnny. The rest of the gang notices that and they show Johnny the affection that he needs. Ponyboy says “‘His father was always beating him up, and his mother ignores him”’ (12). It is very obvious that Johnny is sensitive about his situation at home. Dally is the opposite of Johnny is his situation at home, he does not care about his parents or if they care about him. Dally says to Johnny, “‘My old man don’t give a hang whether I’m in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter. That don’t…

One of the biggest differences between Junior and Rowdy is their attitudes towards school. Junior wanted to leave his school at the reservation and transfer to Rearden. Going to the school in his reservation upset Junior. He showed his frustration by saying, “my school and my tribe are so poor and sad that we have to study from the same dang books our parents studied from” (Alexie, 31). Juniors school was poor and they couldn't afford to buy new resources. Wellpinit was poor and Junior didnt got angry…

Aside from my fascination with Nick’s perseverance and dedication, I was intrigued by the friendship that developed between Nick and Trent, the local bully. At first, Trent and Nick didn’t get along. In fact, Trent beat Nick up. However, as Deuker took us through their relationship we saw how they soon became good friends who were connected through the game of basketball. From this, I realized that some of the people best fit for you could be right under your nose, but they put up a façade to support their tough guy image so you don’t get a chance to get to know who they truly are.…

Behind Dally’s rough exterior, Johnny saw his gallant and heroic side. Dally, on the other hand, represented the anger and hatred the Greasers had towards their archenemies, the Socs. With Johnny gone, the harmony that once existed had now disappeared. If Dally had not died shortly after Johnny, the gang would have lost sight of the dream Johnny had for them and followed Dally’s downward spiral. Ponyboy implied this when he narrated, “He (Dally) had quite a reputation….you had to respect him.” (11 Hinton) The Greasers most likely would follow in the footsteps of Dally and even channel Dally’s frustrations with the Socs, the world, and life in general. Moreover, this hatred would have driven the Greasers all to a life of crime and with the attitude of dying young. “You’d better wise up Pony….you get tough like me and you don’t get hurt.” (147 Hinton) as said by Dally. Ponyboy would have been the most influenced and would have never have grown up to become his own…

He is very sentimental and sensitive. He is afraid of being by himself in a new world. Not having Rowdy in Reardon High School, makes it a little bit harder for Junior because people will make fun of him and could also hurt him. On page 54 Junior says, “I’m scared dad.” Dad replied, “You can always go back to the Rez School.” Junior does not want to go back to the Rez School because he could get hurt and he also won’t be able to get a good education. Junior already made the decision of going to a different school and he was not going to give it up just because he was scared. Junior has conquered some of his weakness. An example in which show us that Junior has overcome one of his fears is when Roger made a racist comment about Indians. He said, “Did you know that Indians are living proof that niggers fuck buffalo?” Junior punched Roger in the face and then challenged him to fight but instead Roger walked away from Junior. This is a big achievement for Junior because this time he didn’t have to depend on Rowdy to help him out. Little by little, Junior is defeating his…

"Dally's okay," Johnny said defensively, and I nodded. You take up for your buddies, no matter what they do. When you're a gang, you stick up for your members. If you don't stick up for them, stick together, make like brothers, it isn't a gang any more. It's a pack. A snarling, distrustful. bickering pack like the Socs in their social clubs or the street gangs in New York or the wolves in the timber. "[Dally's] tough, but he's a cool guy."…
