Diary of a Child Laborer Project
Monday Evening , July 25 1785 .
I'm soo glad mother brought me this diary. She said that it would be a good way to make time pass. My name is Angie Taylor, and I am 12 years old. My Mother
Janet Taylor said that I'm going to be doing away for a while. Something about money and the few factories.
I don't really understand it all but I suppose it will be fun. I'm really excited because mother says I will go tomorrow and then come home and tell her all about my day.
Well diary, i'll talk to you soon.

Tuesday Morning , July 26 .
Mother woke me up very early this morning. I think it was around5 or 6. We ate breakfast and then she brought me to the cotton mills. She talked to this nice man that said he'll take good care of me. She said bye to me then left with a worried look on her face. The man gave me a set of clothes and we went to the third floor of the mill. It was like a long hallway filled with beds and other children. I wondered why they were all here. Girls were on one side of the room and boys were on the other. A few adults came into the rooms carrying large trays. They gave one to each person. It was porridge with a piece of bread & milk. At first, I was confused why we were getting good but i took a tray anyways. Across from me, I noticed a small girl with no food. I decided to give her man but the man grabbed it away and threw it down. He grabbed and dragged me into a corner where he then hit me 2 times across my arms & said sharing our food isn't allowed. I watched in horror as he did the same to the younger girl.

Tuesday Afternoon ,
It is noon , we were given a break for lunch. I found out that the man I thought was a nice man is the factory owner, Mr Randolph. After lunch a few of us older children were on the first floor with the big machines. There were not many windows and it was very warm & humid. The wind from the windows that were open brought

It wasn’t easy, and it was intimidating. While we climbed higher toward the peak, the terrain got steeper and steeper until we were forced to climb on our hands and knees. The higher we climbed the closer we were pushed to the edge of the drop off. It was a gut-wrenching sight. The wind had become a gusty gale, threatening to throw us off. As we shimmied farther towards our goal, the wind lashed out, the hail struck with new ferocity, and my mind fought to keep in control. And as I climbed over the final obstacle, my terror turned to triumph, and I stood on top of the…
