I chose to write about my father for my influence paper. My father was not
only my best friend, but also my parent. He has influenced me in more than just one
way. He was a very respectable, loving, caring, happy individual and loved life.
Although he passed away when I was fourteen years old it does not change the fact
that he still influences me to this day.
I can remember a lot about my father although I was pretty young when he
died. He died at the age of forty of a massive heart attack. My father married a few
months before he passed and my older sister lived with him at the time. My father
lived an hour from me, which wasn’t too bad. I wanted to live with my father so bad
but my mother told me I had to wait until I finished school in which I was attending
Tecumseh High School. It wasn’t far from my father, but to me it was far enough. I remember wanting to move in with my father because I loved him so much.
He was always such a happy person and always had positive things to say. Although
my father passed away and it completely devastated me that did not change how I felt
about him. When you love and care for someone so much and God takes them from
you in a second it can be very painful yet people can use it as a learning tool as I did. Mosse 2
I can remember when my father had a huge impact on my life. I was about
twelve years old and staying at my father’s for the weekend. My sister was there and
I was very jealous of her for getting to live with him and my mother wouldn’t
let me until the school year was over. We were in the kitchen getting ready to eat
and I said to my sister,” He’s not your real dad, he’s mine.” That just broke her heart.
She ran off crying and my father was so upset with me. He talked to me about how
that was uncalled for and explained to me how he loved her just as much as he loved
me. He told me I needed to apologize to her and I did. It hurt me at first to know that
I hurt my father’s feelings because of what I said and I loved him so much that I never
wanted to do anything to hurt him. That’s the kind of person he was not just with me
but with everyone. He taught me to be kind to everyone no matter how you feel.
My father was the kind of person that wanted everyone to get along. He would
open the door for everyone, he loved us unconditionally, he had a heart bigger than
you can imagine. I will never forget my father, and I’m everyone who had had the
opportunity in sharing some of his life with him will never forget him either. I just
recently went to Cadillac, MI. where my father’s brother and his family live, and was
given my father’s ashes. I now have my father with me and I can see him whenever I
want. Remembering his words of encouragement and honoring him everyday help
me succeed in life and he betters me in every way. I’m so proud to have the father
that I do. I will always remember that he was the one that made me who I am today.
